What is jv16 PowerTools?

jv16 PowerTools is a powerful, yet easy-to-use Windows Utility Suite to make your life with Windows easier It is based on the popular freeware registry cleaner app RegCleaner that I made all the way back in 1998.

History

I started to develop RegCleaner because I was growing increasingly frustrated with why my Windows computer kept slowing down and I began to dig deeper to find out the cause.

After a lot of trial and error, I figured out that every time I installed some software or game to try it out and then uninstalled it, things were left behind from the uninstalled software. As I was learning programming at the time, I decided to create an application that would scan the system registry to find out such left-overs.

Out of this research, I created the freeware program RegCleaner. It was one of the very first so called registry cleaners on the market.

Although, I must highlight that I never consider it as registry cleaner per se. The term registry cleaner has always been associated with digital snake oil salespeople who cheaply make poor quality programs and try to sell them to people to fix some made up or at least disingenuous errors from your computer.

Perhaps paradoxically, I created a tool to clean the system registry, but I didn’t see it as a registry cleaner.

Nevertheless, RegCleaner gaining fans almost immediately, with over a million downloads in just the first few months of its release.

After a few years of developing RegCleaner, I started to feel like that focusing only on cleaning the Windows registry was too restricting and I wanted to add more features. And I wanted to further distance myself from the rampant market of programs that made wild claims about fixing system errors and making your computer faster.

This was around 2001 when I started to develop a more complete Windows utility suite including all the features RegCleaner included but also adding a lot more tools. I wanted to create a tool to help people to maintain their Windows PC. To make one’s life with Windows easier.

That is how jv16 PowerTools was born. I know, it’s an unusual name. Basically, I didn’t know what to call the program that I was starting to develop and just used the initials of my name and the age at the time I first began to develop it. The plan was to change the name of the program later, but it stuck.

In 2003 I established a company called Macecraft Software (Macecraft Inc.) when jv16 PowerTools was released as a shareware product, allowing me to slowly start to get paid for the first time in my life for the work I had done.

Key Features of jv16 PowerTools

System Fixer

System Fixer is an easy to use tool that scans your entire system for common Windows and system errors and automatically fixes these errors for you. System Fixer can automatically find and fix:

• Broken file references in the registry,
• Invalid or corrupted app uninstallation data,
• Invalid Desktop and Start Menu shortcuts,
• Invalid automatically starting apps,
• Missing system DLL files,
• Left-over files and registry keys from previously removed apps.

System Cleaner

System Cleaner cleans your computer from unneeded temporary files and other junk. It can quickly and safely clean:

• Registry and file system errors,
• Unneeded junk data,
• Left-over software data, and
• Browser history and cookies.

Software Uninstaller

Software Uninstaller scans your entire computer and identifies installed software as well as left-over traces of old software. This scan goes much deeper than the typical Windows Control Panel’s listing of installed software.

Also, Software Uninstaller can batch uninstall software and perform unattended uninstallation of software. This means that you can choose what apps you want to remove and jv16 PowerTools will then automatically fully remove them from your system. Before anything is removed, it will list all the files and registry data relating to the apps you want to remove, so you can confirm everything.

This is the core philosophy behind jv16 PowerTools: It does things that Windows or most other programs cannot do, it does things very well and in a way you can decide for yourself.
