Let me get the important part out of the way first.
If you own a Lifetime license, nothing changes. You will not be asked to pay again, and you will keep getting every future version for free. That includes licenses bought back in the Macecraft Software days. Version 9 will arrive for you at no cost, like every version before it.
That said, here is what is changing.
The new price
Starting November 1st, 2026, a Lifetime license for jv16 PowerTools will cost $69 instead of $49.
Up to and including October 31st, the old price still applies. Buy any time before November 1st, at full price or at whatever discount is running, and you pay the old price and are done forever.
If you used to have a yearly subscription
We stopped selling yearly licenses in July 2025, so the last of them ran out earlier this year. They were never set to auto-renew, so if you had one, it simply ended, and nothing was charged.
If you want to keep using jv16 PowerTools, a Lifetime license is $24.50 for you, any time up to and including October 31st. It’s a one-time payment that includes access to every future version. Contact us and get your 50% discount link if you haven’t received it in your email already.
On November 1st, that offer ends and a lifetime license costs $69, the same as it does for everyone else.
Why
The honest answer is that the $49 pricing was set six years ago, and development costs haven’t gotten cheaper. Version 9 is a full UI rebuild plus new tools, and we would rather charge a bit more once than solve the problem the way most of this industry solves it – which is to charge you every year and reserve the right to change the amount.
At $69 you are still paying less over any realistic period than any subscription in this category.
First, the sticker prices, as each vendor advertises them today*. These aren’t really comparable, and that is the problem: they cover different numbers of PCs, and some are first-year rates.

Next to that list, our $69 looks like an expensive option. On a single PC for a single year, it is.
But a single PC for a single year is not how anyone actually uses this software. You do not clean up a computer once, decide the job is finished, and uninstall the tool. You keep it, run it every few weeks, and you’ll still be running it on the machine you buy after this one. Most households have more than one Windows PC, and most people who buy a maintenance tool are still using it years later.
So the number that matters is not what it costs to start. It is what it costs to keep.
So here’s the same list for a household with five Windows PCs over the years, using the cheapest option each vendor offers that actually covers five machines. If a license covers only one or three PCs, then we assume that you’ll need to buy more than one.

Two of those deserve a fair mention because they are doing something close to what we do.
Ashampoo is a one time payment that never expires and never renews. Their license covers a single PC, so five machines means five separate purchases at $75 total, six dollars more than us, and each new edition after that is a fresh purchase rather than an update to the one you own.
Wise Care 365 offers a lifetime licence too, at $67.46 for three PCs. On three machines that is genuinely cheaper than we are, by about a dollar and a half, and we would rather say so than hope you do not check. It is on five machines that the maths turns, because a three device licence means buying two of them.
Those first year numbers are why the comparison is worth making slowly. Four of that list cost less than us in year one. By year two none of the subscriptions do, and by year ten it is not close. Norton’s annual renewal on its own is more than our entire lifetime price.
