Here is the Release Candidate version of the brand new, New Major Version of jv16 PowerTools:
(no longer available for download)
Please read the following before downloading
This is Release Candidate level software. It means that this version has been made available only for testing purposes - for you to try the upcoming version and offer us feedback and bug reports. This version is not meant to be used to replace any current version of jv16 PowerTools for everyday use.
Please help us with the development by doing the following:
1) Download and install the jv16 PowerTools NMV Release Candidate.
2) Run all of the tools main tools ("Internet Optimizer", "System Cleaner" and "Software Uninstaller"),
3) When back at the Main Screen of the program, go to File > Save As. This will generate a ZIP file to your desktop, with all of the debug logs from the program.
4) Upload the ZIP file to WeTransfer.com (or other similar service), and send the download link to this thread, directly to me via forum Private Message or email it to support@macecraft.com
This would greatly help us with the development as the debug logs file contains information about how this release candidate performed, what items it listed as registry errors and what software you have installed in your system. We can use this data to improve the safety and accuracy of the new registry cleaning engine. The more data we get, the faster we get the new jv16 PowerTools released!
Privacy notice: The debug data will contain information of your system, such as the basic hardware setup, what software you have installed etc. If you are running the program in a system with private information, please review the debug data before sending it. We will store and treat all received data as confidential and will not share the data with any third parties.
As always, we will give out free licenses to the best beta testers. If you find and report bugs or provide any other kind of valuable feedback we will give you a free license to the final product.
Change Log since Release Candidate 2 build 397
1) Bug fix: Clicking Main Window > File > Save As will show a message with an incorrectly added & character in it.
2) Bug fix: Fixed a small memory leak. Memory leak means that the app didn't release some memory it was using. This causes no harm to the user as Windows will release this memory when the app closes but it was still good to fix.
3) Bug fix: The program could show an error message relating to a path of CD or DVD drive. (very rare issue, only one user reported)
4) Bug fix: The Internet Optimizer may not correctly detect the current DNS servers in some systems, especially the IPv6 servers.
5) Bug fix: The app's message box can get hidden behind the main app window, making it difficult to close.
6) Bug fix: There can be a long delay up to few seconds after making an incorrect input and when actually seeing the error message.
7) Bug fix: Uninstalling software could make the app display Not Responding error message. Usually this was only cosmetic issue but sometimes this would cause the entire app to close whilst uninstalling software.
8) Bug fix: The program can display a warning message saying the System Restore is disabled, even if it is actually enabled in the system.
9) Bug fix: The Internet Optimizer does not always correctly detect IPv6 DNS settings.
10) Bug fix: The System Cleaner can display filenames in the legacy 8.3 short filename format. Such as C:\users\foo~1\temp.tmp instead of C:\users\foobar\temp.tmp
11) Bug fix: The blue category bars in System Cleaner are missing a whitespace, they can say, for example "Temp files- 6 files found", while they should say "Temp files - 6 files found".
12) Bug fix: The Internet Optimizer can display a 0% progress for a very long time.
13) Bug fix: Running the Internet Optimizer many times and always applying the fastest settings, will always lead to new faster settings being recommended.
14) Bug fix: The program can display an Access Violation error message if the Internet Optimizer is started in a system without an internet connection.
15) Bug fix: The Software Uninstaller can display unexpected results or show Range Check Error message in the case you attempt to run it for software without any uninstallation data available, or if you clean the entire input text box of data to be removed.
16) Bug fix: Clicking the Abort button and then running the same tool again can cause the progress screen to be shown without the circular progress indicator.
17) Bug fix: The scroll bar position in the Support page does not reset to the top of the page if the page is closed and then reopened.
18) Bug fix: The Close button in the System Cleaner's report screen may show up without text or be partially blocked by the Never Show Again checkbox.
19) Bug fix: Running the System Cleaner can show up an error message about multi byte support.
Improvements:
1) The program is now ready to be translated! To translate the app, simply go to the Translations folder (by default at: C:\Program Files (x86)\jv16 PowerTools\Translations\) and open the English.lng with a text editor that supports reading and saving files in UTF8 encoding, for example the Notepad++ or Atom Editor.
2) Massive speed improvements to the Initial Setup, System Cleaner and Software Uninstaller.
3) The System Cleaner will now suggest the closing of all running browsers to ensure the optimal performance and safety of the browser cleaning features.
4) The Initial Setup message is automatically closed if its still visible when the Initial Setup completes.
5) Major improvements to the accuracy of the Software Uninstaller.
6) The Software Uninstaller will now warn you if you attempt to uninstall a software which is relating to another software not being uninstalled. For example, if you try to uninstall Microsoft Word but not the entire Microsoft Office suite, you will be shown an additional warning that these two software are related and uninstalling one can cause the other to stop working.
7) To ensure your safety, the setup application will attempt to create a System Restore Point during the installation of jv16 PowerTools, and during the first run the app itself will also attempt to create one.
8) If the system has no IPv6 connectivity, the IPv6 information (or the lack thereof) will no longer be visible in the Internet Optimizer.
9) Minor user interface improvements in Internet Optimizer.
10) Major improvements in Software Uninstaller's ability to uninstall software. Both in accuracy, and in number of items found (e.g. relating files and registry entries).
11) Reduced main user interface flickering (still some left when the progress circle is first shown).
12) Major overall user interface improvements, such as better support for the system font, font sizes with PPI scaling and so forth. It is not yet perfect, but much better.
Known bugs and issues we are still working on (no need to report):
1) My Account does not indicate what type of license a registered user has or how long it is valid.
2) Using the browser data cleaning feature of System Cleaner can disable or clean the bookmarks from Firefox browser. So far three users have reported this. We have not been able to reproduce or fix this yet.
How to send your feedback
* Please use the Post Reply button of this thread for all feedback.
* Open the program and go to File > Save As. This will generate a ZIP file containing the debug data from the jv16 PowerTools installation. Send this file to us, even if you don't experience any problems. We can use the collected data to improve the quality of the program.
* If the "File > Save As" method fails, you can do the same manually: Simply create a zip file of the jv16 PowerTools' Debug directory (not the Backups directory as was the case before) - by default this is at C:\Program Files (x86)\jv16 PowerTools\Debug. IMPORTANT NOTICE: The zip file can contain detailed information of your computer, if you are worried about your privacy, use a service such as https://www.wetransfer.com/ to upload the zip file there and send me the link to the file via a forum Private Message.
* You can send attachments, including screenshots, to the thread from the Post Reply > Upload attachment tab (below the main text area).
* You can also send your general feedback, how you feel the program works for you or if there is something you don't understand, or if some feature doesn't work the way you expected. Feedback like this is sometimes even more valuable than bug reports.
Release Notes:
* You can use this version to start to translate the program to your language. To translate the software: Please open C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools\Translations\English.txt with any modern text editor such as Notepad++, translate the texts inside the file and send it to us via support@macecraft.com - we will issue a free license for everyone who translates the software to their language (notice that we are not interested in any kind of computer software based translations, such as Google Translate based translations). Note: The translation file must be saved with UTF8 encoding.
* Please do not install this version over any previous version, install it to its own installation directory.
And remember, please send all your feedback regarding this beta version to this thread! Thank you!
