This seems to sometimes happen, unfortunately. I'm afraid there is nothing we can do about this, except recommend users to update to the latest version which has the "Check for updates" issue fixed.
Also, starting with the brand new jv16 PowerTools (currently available for beta testing in the forum's beta testing section), we will be offering all the product updates as automatic updates. Meaning users don't need to do anything and new updates are automatically downloaded and installed. (This can be turned off, of course, if user does not wish to enable this feature).
