I have been using JV16 since it was freeware for XP and I purchased a VIP Platinum license years ago. So I have been using this for many years without a problem. I upgraded to the latest version and ran the default clean and speedup my computer with the default settings. It trashed my web browsers, removing the extensions and making others unusable. It also deleted program exe files, such as jdownloader2. I made a backup but restoring the backup fixed nothing. Without a doubt this is the worst experience I have ever had. The only good news is I do a full system backup every night and can recover my system but I won't be running this new version any more, I will go back to the PowerTools X version.

Before reimaging my system I wanted to see what else it screwed up. It destroyed Cyberghost VPN, it doesn't start anymore and it removed a piece of it from the system services. All my preferences were deleted also. It also destroyed DFX so that it would not automatically start when the system started and all my saved presets are gone. My Drobo Dashboard no longer starts at startup and will not run when I try to start it manually. All of these are totally removed from the startup in msconfig. And, although I added them to the exclusions list, the only thing that kept PowerTools from destroying my NAS units was they require a login to access and I wasn't logged into them because an attempt was made to access them. And although Intel Rapid Storage is listed in startup in msconfig it no longer starts either.

Sincere apologies for the delay in our response and thank you for your long term support.

Truly sorry to read about this poor experience. Indeed this occurred only under Windows 8 and 8.1 and isolated cases where specific configurations were affected. We managed to determine the cause and this will never happen again. We have learned a lot from this mistake and will not repeat it.

The only good news is I do a full system backup every night and can recover my system but I won't be running this new version any more, I will go back to the PowerTools X version.

You can download the jv16 PowerTools X form here: https://www.macecraft.com/download-old-versions/

Same here: In my case it affected the taskbar icons for my software where they no longer worked or were removed, restoring the backup didn't work. I removed JV 16 & reinstalled but it then began to rescan immediately after scanning which took 20 mins or more to complete, the pc restarted but wouldn't start-up, I tried repair & restoring an image but neither worked, good job I had cloned the HD so swapped it & restored the image to that. There's just too many bugs with the new version these are some while another is although it ran the score didn't increase.

I have returned to JV 16 X.

I have returned to JV 16 X.

Apologies for the inconvenience. The startup issue occurred with the last version? 4.1.0.1657 or with 4.1.0.1631? As we managed to create a more stable and relying version, would you be kind to help us and:

1. Install jv16 PowerTools 2017 again, you can download it from https://www.macecraft.com/download/

2. Run the Clean and SpeedUp My Computer tool with default settings (as is). When presented with the scan results, please STOP and see the next point

3. When presented with the scan results, instead of cleaning anything, simply close the program

4. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\jv16 PowerTools 2017 and pack the "Backups" folder found in this folder path as a ZIP or RAR archive

5. Upload the resulting Backups archive to https://wetransfer.com/

6. Send me a private message with the resulting https://wetransfer.com/ link to download the archived Backups folder

Once we have your Backups folder, we can take a closer look if there are any false positive flags by jv16 PowerTools for any files or registry keys found in your specific environment.

It was the last/latest version - 1657.

Addendum: I reinstalled the latest version on the fresh hard drive & while it still ran the scan twice it didn't delete anything it shouldn't. Will post again if that changes after a few restarts.

Thank you Virginia!

Alas short lived, JV 16 2017 appears to interfere with installing Windows 10 cumulative updates & prevents them from continuing the install once pc is restarted. When Windows has finished loading it still asks to restart & update & did this until I removed JV 16, the message disappeared however now the the pc extremely slow, I suspect the startup optimiser has caused all this so I am restoring a backup image & will test this later today.

Another problem is eerily similar to my previous problem in that when uninstalling JV 16 it affects startup items like iCloud, Norton antivirus, Intel audio, Soundblaster cinema & MBAM not appearing at startup, in the case of MBAM & iCloud I just have to open the program & fix settings for startup, in the case of Intel & Soundblaster the startup settings no longer work & require reinstalling the drivers/program to get it to work, the biggest problem is Norton where I lost the Backup feature, after several restarts Backup returned but it is still hit & miss as to whether the program automatically starts when Windows starts.
