This topic has been addressed in our latest newsletter. Here is a brief of the problem. We are working on it:
Starting with jv16 PowerTools X version 4.0.0.1524 we have not only migrated the product to the new subscription based licensing engine but have also added an extra anti-piracy protection layer to the product. The same security system has been integrated into jv16 PowerTools 2017 so the issue may be present there as well, on some systems.
This mechanism checks for the integrity of the product once it is launched and ensures that you are running a legitimate, unaltered version of our software. This increases your security and reliability in our software product by limiting the possibilities for malicious files to reach your system from untrusted sources. Unfortunately, this has proven to have its downside: higher product starting time.
On some systems, our users reported that up to 30 seconds are needed for jv16 PowerTools X to start for the first time - compared to under 2 seconds, as it used to. You can rest assured that this is in no way intentional or permanent and we are looking into a work-around for this problem. In the while, please manifest patience and allow the product to start normally without trying to open it again.
For the more privacy and security concerned users, you should know that this lengthy product starting time is not caused by our product "talking home" extensively, meaning, we are not sending any personal or private data in "bulk" to our server.
The time needed to start the product at this moment is simply because of the protection layer added to the latest version and we are currently optimizing it for best results.
As a fact, the only times when our product communicates with our servers is when you, as its user, request a license to be activated using the My Account feature or when the product automatically checks for updates (if enabled and allows by you) - once every few days.
