Iso much usmuch time registry compactor. It said I needed to restart so I did and when it rebooted all I got was a black screen on all of my monitors. If I move the mouse around it will appear but when I stop, it disappears. That's it. Can't do anything else. Can't seem to bring up the advanced options to boot into safe mode either. What the hell happened? And how can I fix it? I've sunk so much time into this Windows installation please help! win 8.1 x64 btw.

Can you tell me first what you did exactly: what tools of PowerTools X did you use? You mention the Registry Compactor, do you mean it ran (you saw the Registry Compactor window during Windows bootup) or do you mean you ran the Registry Compactor from PowerTools X, it asked you to reboot and the computer never did?

You can follow instructions here to boot into Windows safe mode:

Sorry the beginning of my post got scrambled for some reason. When I turn on my pc it boots to a black screen with a mouse cursor that disappears when I stop moving it. I did run a registry clean under the "safe" parameters with the other two options unchecked. Only deleted like 12 entries, after reviewing them they seemed harmless to delete(but i'm no expert). Afterwards I ran the registry compactor, during which it asked me to restart in order to finish and when I did I was greeted with this black screen. Can't boot into safe mode even with the options you provided. I put DaRT 8.1 on a flash drive and used file explorer to see if i could find a registry backup but I think all i have is partial backups(not really sure). I saw some files that appear to log what registry compactor did but I can't make much sense of it, much less how to revert the changes. I can upload them if necessary.

Can you access the Backups directory (C:\program files\jv16 PowerTools X\Backups) of the program? If so, please zip the entire folder and send here or directly to me at jouni.flemming@macecraft.com.

Sent to your email. Subject line: Fing3rz backups

Have you had a chance to look at the backups? Not having a pc is turning me into a workaholic and I don't like it. Lol

Not sure if it helps but I checked the bootlog and it shows that everything loaded except for dxgkrnl. sys which failed to load many times. Looks like it loaded the first time and failed the next 15 or so.

5 days later

Sorry about the delay, the backup file you sent contains a lot of data and it is taking a long time to analyze properly.

The data suggests that you opened many tools within the program, such as Decrap My Computer, Service Manager, Software Uninstaller and Registry Manager. Did you use these tools to remove something from your computer?

Yeah I did run decrap my computer but that was at least a few days prior to the black screen and it was running great afterwards.

Since I wasn't sure if/when this issue would get resolved, I went ahead reinstalled windows on another drive while I had some free time. Decided to try out winreducer for a slimmed down custom install. Only 8gb! even with all updates integrated.=) So it's no longer necessary for you to spend any more of your time on this unless you still want to get to the bottom of this.
