When i use jv16 PowerTools i always use it on the maximized window size, as i do for almost any application.
When i open jv16 PowerTools it always looks fine (100% screen filling), but for some reason the jv16 PowerTools maximized window starts to get smaller as soon as i switch between different windows inside jv16 PowerTools and sometimes it jumps back to 100% again, but usually not. Most of the time it's just a small gap, but in some cases it looks like i'm missing about 10% of the bottom of the jv16 PowerTools window.
It's always the bottom part of my screen that partially disappears so i can see part of my desktop wallpaper (or any other application that's running).
The software itself runs fine, but it's just annoying to press the maximize button twice every time to get my screen filled again, and honestly,it looks very amateurish. In all the years i never encountered any other application with this issue.
It is not a thing new to jv16 PowerTools X, it's a thing that's been bothering me for years and i'm sure versions 2014, 2013 and 2012 had the same problem. I use jv16 PowerTools since 2003, so forgive me i can't remember when i first encountered the issue.
I always hoped it would be fixed with the release of a newer version, but as it still exists in the latest X version, i think it's time to report it. Better late than never.
Can it have something to do with my screen resolution ? I use a 24" 1920x1200 (16) screen. When i see the screen getting smaller for about 10% it almost looks like jv16 PowerTools is sending a 1920x1080 (16) window to my screen. Maybe it's not optimized for the 1920x1200 resolution in some way.
I have access to 3 different machines, but they all have a 1920x1200 resolution screen and they all show the same issue when using jv16 PowerTools. Too bad i don't have a 1920x1080 screen to test it. Maybe it happens to 1920x1080 and other resolution screens also.
My system (nothing overclocked):
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
Intel i7 3770K (3.50 GHz)
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 660 Ti
HP ZR24w 24" 1920x1200 (16) screen
I hope this issue can be solved once and forever.
There's another thing that is specifically a jv16 PowerTools X issue. It's the new "Speed up my computer's startup".
Where are all the settings i could use in the old "Speed up my computer" window ? (that's what it was called in the previous jv16 PowerTools releases i believe)
There were some very handy settings among them that are missing in the X version. Why ?
You replaced all those settings with the new horrible "Speed up my computer's startup".
I like my system to boot with the minimum number of applications running in the background, so there's no way on earth i'm gonna use "Speed up my computer's startup" that will run every time i boot/reboot my system. No matter how good the intentions are to speed up my machine.
Can't this new function just scan a reboot once or twice and make changes to the order in which the applications/services are being executed when booting ?
Even in that case i don't think i would use it (my machine boots fast enough), but at least that's better than running it every time.
It doesn't even show what kind of changes it makes, so only for that reason i dislike the new function.
I personally think it's a step back compared to the previous releases. As an experienced Windows user I use jv16 PowerTools to have control over my computer, but what this new function does is exactly the opposite thing: giving control out of hand to an application that doesn't even share what it is doing while it's running all the time. No thank you... i'll pass.
Okay, sorry but there's one more thing, also an old problem in jv16 PowerTools that exists for many years that still hasn't been fixed.
See my previous post on this forum in the topic:
System optimizer in 2.1.0.1173 still shows blank interface
I encountered this problem again in jv16 PowerTools X when i was changing the "Settings" directory to another partition.
After you change the directory jv16 PowerTools restarts and puts all the .dat files in the new preferred directory, but it forgets to copy/move all the .xdat files there also from the previous "Settings" directory (default: C:\Program Files (x86)\jv16 PowerTools X\Settings\) like HistoryCleaner.xdat / MetaDB.xdat / refod.xdat / SFE.xdat. Without those .xdat files in the new "Settings" directory some items in jv16 PowerTools can't be executed at all.
Personally i don't understand why those .xdat files are placed in the settings directory. Those files should be placed in another directory that can't be moved away from the main directory of jv16 PowerTools as they are essential to the program itself. Putting those files in the settings directory is asking for troubles.
Okay... i'm really done this time
Good luck and keep up the good work on my favourite swiss army knife for Windows.
