Hi JV,

For me,one of the most important features you might add for

jv16 PowerTools 2006, is a selective restore feature for the Reg Cleaner.

Reason backups are important, there is one big flaw with them

that most developers overlook.

Backup and restore are fine for stuff you want to keep, but not for items

that you have deleted because you did not want them.

Take for example this scenario have deleted let's say 100 items.

Now you discover that some, maybe even 1 or 5 or whatever number, should not have been deleted.

With a backup, you are forced to restore the full 100 entries again, whether you like it or not.

That's where selective restore comes in.Basically I compare it to a quarantine.

In most cases, individual items can be restored from quarantine.

Unfortunately, very few developers consider this option.

I have run into this "bug" numerous times.Very inconvenient.

Even some anti-spyware (anti-malware) programs are lacking this very important feature.

Some are very well known.

I'm not going to name any names, but it annoys me to no end.

So JV, I'm hoping you want to consider this option.

You will certainly lead the way in showing how to develop

a program properly and how to deal with backups and restore.

Thank you for your consideration.

Pete

PS It stands to reason that I would like to see this for

RegSupreme and RegSupreme Pro as well.

This feature is already present in jv16 PowerTools 2005 under the Right Click menu of the Backup Tool. I don't think the feature will be included to the RegSupreme's in order to keep the two products as lightweight as possible.

Hi JV,

Thanks very much for your quick reply.

For some reason I did not have that option available to me.

But since you said it is there, it's got to be there :)

So I re-installed jv16 Powertools and after everything(scan, delete items etc)

sure enough the option was available.

So I was without this valuable option for several months.

I have a strong suspicion that the "corruption" was caused by

Norton Internet Security.I was experiencing a lot of instability with NIS and my system

during the install of jv16PT2005.

After months of struggling with this and numerous emails to Symantec,I finally took Norton of my computer.

Who knows what else I will find that NAV corupted :)

Anyway everything worked out well with jv16PT.

Since this thread was basicallly a "false alarm" and actually

is redundant in a sense, feel free to remove the whole thread

if you want.

I'm sorry to hear that you're not adding this to the RegSupremes.

I would have thought that at least RegSupreme Pro would get the selective restore feature.

But you explained your reasons.Would you reconsider?

Thanks again,

Pete.
