Trying to upgrade from Powertools 2012 to 2014 and the installation successfully completes but the initial scan when the program starts up hangs and never completes. The dialog window indicates it should complete in 1 to 5 minutes but it never does (even after 30 minutes) and the green progress bar doesn't show any progress once it is about 25% into the scan (or as indicated by the green bar).

I have excluded jv powertools in Avast antivirus scans. Not sure what else I need to do.

Any suggestions?

Uninstalled Avast and stopped all non microsoft services then tried again to install powertools. No luck, the initial setup scan still stalls and will not complete. Desktop is running the 64 bit Windows 7 pro SP1 operating system.

Any suggestions for a work around would be appreciated.

1. Which jv16PT2014 version did you install on W7-x64-SP1, v3.2.0.1352 or .1354?

2. Did you install jv16PT2014 in a clean/new installation folder (=required) or did you install the 2014 version over the 2012 version (reused the installation folder)?

I downloaded .1354 and installed it into a different folder labeled 2014. Old folder was 2012.

I've also used revo uninstaller and uninstalled all versions of jv ptools including the folders that they were installed into. Subsequent efforts to reinstall 2014 still make it through the installation but then hang at differing progress of the initial setup scan when the software starts up.

This really has me baffled as I have not had this problem with jvptools before.

crabcakes99 I am facing the same problem and despite I disable firewall, anti-virus (Kaspersky 2014) and disable everything that could prevent JV16 to proceed the scan it doesn't works. The same as you, I get the green bar up to 80% and then the process remain as such forever. As you I had no problem at all when using JV16 2012. I reported the issue but the reply I received doesn't very much helped:

"Hello, The Registry Cleaner can show up as frozen if the software does not have the admin access and the operating system is trying to stop the search. Also Antivirus software's active scan can do this. Usually the slowness is caused by other software trying to stop our software from working correctly. I recommend trying to run the software in Computer's safe mode."

If I cannot get it working, I am considering to move back to 2012, which would be very sorry!

Wishing somebody can pay a bit more time to investigate our problem.

It is now several months I posted question to Support and no solution to this problem. I am getting very frustrated. Whatever I have tested, from clean install to stopping all non vital services worked. JV16 remains hanging when proceeding registry scan!
