I'm very disappointed with the new v2014, it caused havoc on my clean Windows 8 Pro system that was living peacefully with old version 2013. Just to name a couple of big headaches it made (by using the Registry Cleaner, Clean and Fix my Computer and Compact Registry features, one after another) among other problems yet to discover:
1. Messed up completely the Windows System Files (sfc /scannow command found several problems that couldn't be repaired). Fortunately I found DISM http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html, an online repair tool that brought me back to life, a lengthy process.
2. Killed my Windows Media Player 12 program, unable to run it, brought it back to its initial configuration in an endless loop which it can't even start. I found out that this issue is related to a corrupted user profile, I tried to create a new one (as recommended) so I can bypass this error, no success.
First thing I tried, easily guessed, was restore back the changes made by PowerTools. No luck. My last resort was Windows System Restore, however to my dismay, all the restore points were cleaned completely!!!
This is the first time (and the last I'm afraid) that jv16PT let me down. Uninstalled it for good. Yesterday I received a notification that a new 2014 build was released. No changelog nor explanations for this were made, this obviously raised my eyebrows.
If not broken don't fix it, the lesson I learned :(
