Recent programs missing from Start Menu

Upgraded from jv16 PowerTools 2012. Ran a registry clean in safe mode. Now I have no recent programs on my start menu. Pinned programs still there. Start Menu options are set properly. Is there some way to repair whatever got "fixed"? This is extremely inconvenient.

Recent programs are considered as history data by jv16 PowerTools, if you do not wish this data to be cleaned, please uncheck the History data option from the front screen of the Registry Cleaner's start window. There is also a big information box about cleaning the history data.

The problem isn't that it cleaned my history, the problem is it doesn't get refreshed. I must have opened fifty programs since and it's still empty.

Which version of Windows are you using W8/W7/Vista/XP?

My W7-x64-SP1 with jv16PT2014_b1341 does refresh the Start Menu.

Restore a backup does not help (restart PC also does not help).

Dear JV16 why do you not respond to this issue we are many with this problem the needs to have our start menu fixed. The recently used programs dosent work any more......

Do we know what the damage (to the registry, I assume) is? I note I'm not alone with this issue and there's a suggestion that the problem was fixed in 1341. However, that's the build I installed so obviously the problem wasn't fixed. I just updated to 1344 but don't if it is supposed address this problem or not. However, fixing the cause and fixing the damage are two different things. So, do we know what happened and can I fix it. I already tried a system restore BTW, and it was unsuccessful for one reason or another. I don't know if it failed because of this problem or for some other reason, but it's not an option for me, hence my question.

Why bother with "Start Menu" any programs that i use a lot of, i have icons on my desktop and run them from there.

I, too, am experiencing this problem. My recent programs menu does not refresh after installing jv16 PowerTools 2014 on my Windows Vista machine. I am really used to having my recently used programs easily available on the start menu. I expected that once the old list of programs was cleared using the registry cleaner, that they would begin refreshing with newly used programs. It doesn't work that way!!I have attempted to find missing registry keys to no avail. Please let me know when a solution is posted. Thanks.

I found a fix for my system (Vista Ultimate 64-bit). The Start menu's recent programs are working again.

Using regedit, delete this key...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist

Windows will rebuild it on restart. To play it safe, I exported the current key, but it wasn't necessary.
