The problem is not solved for me. SU never finishes and I still have to kill jv16 with TM.

Thank you for your help! Could you tell me a little what happens when you try to open the Software Uninstaller? Does the window show up? If it does, does the window close or remain visible the whole time?

I installed and ran private build 5 (build 1347).

Software Uninstaller creates the program list now in 90-94 seconds.

When closing the program it drops immediately from memory.

So finally I have no problems discussed here on my system.

That's why I have not sent the debug logs to the developer.

The SU window opens and stays open the entire time. I am able to close the SU window and then close jv16pt but something keeps running even though I have closed both. I then have to kill jv16pt with TM.

Oh, I did not expect this: users robkarp and gringgo are actually experiencing a very different bugs!

With robkarp, the software doesn't actually generate the list of software installed to the system at all but just hangs, and with gringgo, the list of installed software is generated perfectly but the program hangs when it is time to display the results (actually, the freeze occurs when the result list is sorted).

So, here is a new private test build which is my first real attempt to fix the problem, or problems, to be exact. The pprevious test versions only contained more and more debug code to help me locate the problem:

Here are my debug files from version 5 of the beta. The Software Uninstaller still does not complete. I am using Win-7 x64. When aborting the Uninstaller jv16 just hangs now, previously it would close (though I would have to then kill the process in Task Manager).

I am running jv16 PowerTools 2014 on Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and it is Clean and Fix My Computer that takes forever to run. The problem seems to be with deleting Internet Explorer 10 temp files and I only occasionally use IE (my primary browser is Firefox 24). It seems to take minutes per file to delete each one and the entire Clean and Fix process can take 4 hours or more to complete.

You can make it run faster by not asking PowerTools to create a backup of the temp files. PowerTools 2015 will come with a feature that automatically suggests you not to create backups of temp files, as these backups are 99% of the time very much useless.

Just to be clear: About how long did you let the Software Uninstaller run before you used the Task Manager?

Here is a new attempt to fix the issue:

http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/betas/jv16PT2014_private6.exe

I have made progress in locating the issue, now it is only matter of fixing it. To do so, I have also added more debug code to this version. So if the Software Uninstaller works with you, this version will work a bit slower due to the added debug code. When the issue is fixed, I will turn off all the debug code and publish the final version with the improved speed.

Thank you again for helping me solve this issue!

As noticed too in all previous private builds, the green progress bar does not function.

The displayed image never changes, from the start of Software Uninstaller till completion.

SU progress bar does not progress and jv16pt needs to be killed with TM.

I didn't time it exactly. About 5 minutes or so give or take a minute. Version 2013 took less than a minute to run and I saw from the earlier beta versions we tried these last days that the software list was actually being created within 30-40 seconds so I figured 3-5 minutes was more than sufficient. Should I have allowed more time?

I let it run about 5 minutes. I have let it run from 1 minute up to > 15 minutes and the results are the same.

Indeed, it's getting slower:

private 3 was ~15 seconds

private 6 is now ~20 seconds.

Here are my debug files from this version. I let it run for 10 minutes. Win7 x64. When I aborted the Software Uninstaller, jv16 closed politely but I still had to kill the process in Task Manager. The Software Uninstaller did not complete. Thank you for your continued work.

No, that is enough time. As you said, it should take no more than two minutes.

Here is a new test build, it contains more debug code and improves the way the progress bar is updated:

Can you run this and post the debug files here again? Thank you!

Here are my logs for "private 7":

The progress bar completes, but after > 3 minutes, the process never finishes and I abort. I then have to close jv16pt with Task Manager.
