Oh, I did not expect this: users robkarp and gringgo are actually experiencing a very different bugs!
With robkarp, the software doesn't actually generate the list of software installed to the system at all but just hangs, and with gringgo, the list of installed software is generated perfectly but the program hangs when it is time to display the results (actually, the freeze occurs when the result list is sorted).
So, here is a new private test build which is my first real attempt to fix the problem, or problems, to be exact. The pprevious test versions only contained more and more debug code to help me locate the problem:

Can you run it and let me know how it goes? And send over the debug files, even if the problem is solved (even if the problem is solved, I would still like to verify from the debug files that everything is working properly under the hood as well).
