bad experience with jv16PT 2013

I am an old user of jvPT. Until now, I never had problems with new versions. So I bought an installed version 2013.

First impression: SLOW ! e.g. it took more than 10 minutes until the software uninstaller started. After the install the new version - after using a lot of time for seeking errors - told me about PC health and registry health 3%. Incredible, with version 2012 it was 100%. Well I let it "clean", this also (after I decided to make a backup) took much time.

As I looked on the backups, it was not possible - as in ver. 2012 - to highlight a groop of backups. So far, so bad.

For experimental causes I uninstalled and reinstalled the software. Despite the fact that I did not change anything between uninstalling and reinstalling the program found thousends of errors. Well, I let it "clean", and as a result of this, important software as Office programs did not run any more.

Well, B4 trying out new versions I make a backup with an excellent program, and if I decide to go back to the good old version I make a recovery. I can advise this for everyone, since the smart guys of the software companies take care that after an uninstall a lot of information remains on the HD.

After 20 minutes my computer was as it was before and I surely will not install version 2013 in the next time. Maybe they will it improve.

What windows version are you using with jv16PT2013?

The fist time you installed jv16PT2013 did you install over jv16PT2012 or in a new directory next to jv16PT2012? Please provide more step by step information about what you exactly did with jv16PT2013.

I am using jv16PT2013 with W7-x64 without problems for quite some time now.

I uninstalled jv16PT 2012 and left "settings" and "backups" not to get uninstalled. After this, I renamed the folder jv16Power Tools 2012 to jv16Power Tools 2013. The I installed ver. 2013. The OS on this computer is Windows XP.

BTW, for me it is not so important that a software is running on other ones computer, it is only interesting if it is running well on my computer. As I know, if something goes wrong, the software company is always looking for users failures, never for flaws of the software. In that case I do not think that it was so bad to use an existing folder I had renamed, and the strange fact that the new version "finds" so much failures in the registry the old version does not, was also reported by other users. O.k., if computer health and registry health with ver. 2013 would be e.g. 80%, even 70% instead of 100%, this would be understandable. And the other effects I experienced and described let me loose confidence in the program.

If you have time and like (dont forget to make a backup of the whole system B4) you can try out what I did: uninstall and reinstall jv16PT 2013 immediately.

in the meantime I studied more posts about jv16PT 2013. Well, others users see the same as me, e.g. that the new version is SLOW, and that the uninstaller needs a lot of time to start. So its clear for me not to use this new version until all bugs are fixed.

BTW: does Jouri Vuonio (sorry, I am sure I misspelled his name) still work for the company ? His software was always flawless.

I have exactly the same proplem on my computer with XP-SP3 with the 2013 version of jv16 Powertools.

It looks like cleaning up temporary internet files goes very slowly. It took almost an hour to remove 1500 files. While 'working' it uses 100% of CPU capacity and there is almost no harddrive activity. Also jv16 grows to over 200 Mb in size. What is it doing?

Removing an old backup file took 3 minutes of 'thinking' before i got the question if i really wanted to remove the backup(s). After 'yes' it took 5 second to remove 3 backups.

I also sometimes have the problem that at startup of jv16 powertools 2013 it wants to do an initial scan.

If it does come up it crashes several times before completing (after pressing resume) the scan.

jv16 2012 i used for a few years and never had these problems.

If it isn't solved very soon. I go back to the old version. Because this 2013 version is wasting my time.

Are you using the latest version 3.0.0.1267 of jv16PT2013?

Because this 1267 version specifically addressed these issues you are mentioning.

Well, the first official release jv16PT2013 was 3.0.0.1258, shipped April 11th 2013.

The second release (to correct a few problems) was 3.0.0.1267, shipped April 28th 2013.

So your installed jv16PT2013 (in the former jv16PT2012 directory!) is now using the 'settings' from jv16PT2012. From my own experience during jv16PT2013 beta testing I know that this can cause problems.

A simple quick test:

Install a newly downloaded copy of jv16PT2013 3.0.0.1267 in a new/empty/clean directory and find out if your previously mentioned problems still exists under Windows-XP.

I too experience problems mentioned above, on both of my systems - Win 7 64bit (SP1) and Win XP (SP2). And yes, I am using the latest version on both.

What I noticed regarding slow registry error fixing/removing files is this:

- this is a process of slowing down. The program starts working normally - which is fast, and then continually slows down (this means that if you have only 100-200 errors you might not really notice it). To give you a better picture, it fixes let's say 8 errors/sec in the initial phase and after 45 min the speed drops to fixing 1 error every 8 seconds

- in my experience this seems to happen only when I choose to do the backup. Without backing up the speed of removing erroneous entries is very fast (however it still needs to "think" before it starts). Of course, it is a very lame "solution"

Perhaps someone also seeing this problems could verify this observations

I didn't dare to try out other functions like software uninstaller after browsing this forum...

I've been a jv16 user for about 10 years and - I must say this - the jv16PT 2013 experience is absolutely disappointing, especially that every previous version was fantastic. Considering the gravity of reported issues, it doesn't even qualify as a "beta" stage. I really hope the developers come up with a fix and come up fast. Otherwise I'll think twice before paying one more dime to Macecraft in the future (and I guess I won't be alone)...

well, seeing that other users of the software had also bad experiences lets me wait for a solution. Leonardo, apparently a freak of this tool, gave interesting advices. But I do not use a tool, and jv16 is simply a tool, to study hours for hours possible solutions for problems with the tool. I am sure that Jouri Vuonio is not longer the master of this software and I will not have problems to leave it and look for another one. I am sure that everyone has a lot to do with his computer and tools are not worth the time to waste with them.

Yes, I confirm the "process of slowing down" on my W7-SP1-x64 laptop.

I ran 'Clean & Fix My Computer' and it found 12 registry items and 765 temp files.

I choose to take a backup and the cleaning process started very fast but slowed down very much at the end.

I restored the backup, but it will take a few day's before the temp files show up again in CFMC because the restore resets the stamp 'last time used'. After that I can do the test without a backup!

EDITED 27-06-2013:

Confirmed: I ran CFMC with 1585 items found (1555 temp files).

Fixing the found items without taking a backup runs in ~2 seconds.

I'm a bit late with this reaction. But, yes i used and am using the latest version available.

The issues mentioned in my earlier post are not changed.

And the 2013 version was installed in it's own new directory. After that i removed 2012.
