If you have any ideas, suggestions or feature requests for the upcoming jv16 PowerTools 2006 this is the place to post them.

Everyone who posts a good new idea or a feature request will receive a free personal license for the product. By "good" I mean we will judge what ideas, suggestions or feature requests will entitle for a free license.

The jv16 PowerTools 2006 (version 1.5.2.xxx) will be a medium scale update (similar to the 1.5.0 -> 1.5.1 some time ago) and it will be free for the current license owners of jv16 PowerTools 2005.

The new version should be out before the end of this year. I don't yet know whether I start a blog about the development as I did before, perhaps.

So, what would you like the new version to contain?

1) Auto-detection (and appropriate display updating) of "new" vs. "old" items. Older versions would automatically change previously "new" items to "old" on the next use of PT, but 2005 leaves them as new until I manually change them.

2) More detail in the manual, as per your separate thread for that.

1. A better startup manager would be great. Meaning a way to not just delete but also disable startup software. Kind of like what codestuff starter does.

2. Option to add context menu for things like the file wiper and encryptor

3. Get rid of the jv16 tag at the begging of encrypted files makes it obvious what program was used to encrypt the files.

4. A way to not only pick what category shows in jv15 menu like show only registry tools etc. but another context menu at each category that will allow me to pick only the tools i use. Pick maybe a few from registry a few from files etc...

- Opera (Browser) Cookie/History support.

- A 'Change/Modify' button for the Add/Remove Menu. For things like adding/removing features that some installers provided, like MS Office for example.

Hello,

It would be smart to have - in Automation Tool - the possibility to disable/enable tasks.

Some new features coming to the jv16 PowerTools 2006:

* Internet update feature

* Icon for the file tool for the main window

* New tool: Disk wiper - allows you to fully wipe disks/directories, or the free space of a disk

* Directory tool - similar what jv16 PowerTools 1.4.1 had but with more options

This not in any ways the full list of new features, these are only the new features that are already implemented or currently being implemented.

Add module for clearing IE6 personal information stored as Tools/Autocomplete entries (web addresses, information on forms, and usernames/passwords on forms).

a registry compacter with a twist. allow an exclusion list to allow excluding reg entries from being copied to the new registry. this would allow for getting rid of registy entries that regedit gives an error on when trying to delete them. these entries are usually intentionally put there by software developers.

It would be helpful if jv16 kept track of which files were originals and which were the duplicates, chronologically, as they were added. This would help decide which of the duplicates was safe to delete. That is on the presumption that the original would be the safe duplicate to keep.

On sep25 I wrote....

Do you have intentions or concrete plans to add , OR is REGISTRY compaction a dangerous shoot-yourself-in-the-foot feature INTENTIONALLY left out for our own safety?

In the alternate, do you have a reliable and safe third-party compactor you recommend?

To tell you the truth, you have several options available. Most all-in-one optimizing utilities have one tool to do the job, there is also the Registry Compactor from Rose City Software, and, of course, NTRegOpt, which is the only freeware tool of the bunch, although I personally prefer the tool built into TuneUp Utilities

Hopefully you still have all my last requests, they still apply.. and many are probably more appropriate for the 2006 version :) If not, I'll dig them up and past them here.

Notok: I noticed some of them are already implemented, but I'll take a closer look at your feature requests soon.

The information about the development of the new version will be made public (at our News section, that is) when the preliminary list of the new features is compiled. Most likely before the end of this month.

The Disk Wiper is now already implemented, it has some great features compared to the competitive products. But the detailed list of features will be published later on.

Next I'll implement the Startup Manager.

The features most likely included:

* All features of the Registry Manager > Starting programs

* Ability to disable/enable programs

* Ability to create new starting programs

* and much more.

Any features you would like to see in the Startup Manager? Just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

With respect, how about sorting out the problems with History Manager before adding 'new features'.

Regards,

FC

I will take a closer look at the problems of the History Manager before the release of the PT 2006, of course.

Any features you would like to see in the Startup Manager? Just let me know and I'll see what I can do.I'd like to see the program icons in the list, add additional startup locations such as shell execute hooks, etc. (see SysInternal's AutoRuns for examples), for DLLs and such (in things like shell execute hooks) show the associated program icon, the developer's company name, the ability to hide known system components, and the biggest one for me- the ability to sort the order in the registry startups (this actually works, and many times can solve problems with icons not showing up in the system tray)

In the Software Manager, I would really like to see a collapsable tree view for multiple entries for the same program/suite, and/or programs from the same developer (for example Nero and Acronig True Image have a whole bunch of entries there, it would be nice to be able to collapse those to make the list easier to sort through, same with Windows hot-fixes).

STARTUP MANAGER

In the Startup Manager, I'd like to see the feature that when you click on an entry, it gives you the details about what it is, who created it, etc.

But then I'd really like to see where if you right-click on the item, it will search an online database such as Google or bleepingcomputer.com and let you know all about the program, whether it's valid and whether it's required to run on startup.

JV16 POWERTOOLS

In items like File Finder, instead of a blank box in the "Search in" tab, I'd like to see my directory tree, so I can just checkmark the folders to search.

I'd like to see that "right-click to Google" feature added to the Software Manager, too, because all too often there are a few files in there that are just questionable as to what they are alltogether.

Instead of physically closing an application and then opening another, I'd like all the applications to be listed as icons in whichever program is running. Then if an icon is clicked, that program closes and the selected program opens. Of course, when starting up, you could still have a "Start" Window with all the programs listed, with descriptions.

Not sure if this can be done, but since you have File Wiping in the options menu, it'd be nice to have that in the Privacy Protector--the ability to empty the Recycle Bin and File Wipe those entries.

In the Start Menu Fixer, I'd like the ability to organize my Start Menu. When I open explorer, it's split between a couple of accounts. I'd like to be able to order my icons in one place. (Of course, that may be a problem with the way my PC is set up. )

In the File Organizer, I'd like the ability to sort all files or folders on my hard drive by size, so I can see where I'm bloated.

A Disk Defragger that automatically places your most-used programs at the front would be great. Especially if it's faster than the WinXP one.

In the Registry Manager Add/Remove menu, it would be REALLY nice to be able to sort alphabetically, as well as by install date.
