Disastrous in Windows 8

Hi, I'm a longtime user of jv16 Powertools but I have to say that the software is absolutely terrible for Windows 8.

For one, using the registry compactor seems to destroy the user account which requires a restoration of the backup.

Secondly, a standard registry cleanup will also result in a lot of 'registry junk' which, when removed, will dissociate certain filetypes such as .theme and .themepack from Windows. I don't see how the ability to install theme packs is Windows junk.

Thirdly, the optimization feature is completely non-functional. Trying to use it will return the message that it is only available for XP, Vista, 7 and 8 which is very insulting.

Is there any reason for such a shoddy release?

I assume you are referring to jv16PT 2012 build 1173? At the time of release of this final 2012 version, W8 was not yet official available.

Full W8 support will be provided by all 2013 versions, e.g. PT Lite EX 2013 (is available) and jv16PT 2013 (jv16PT 2013 Beta2 is currently running in beta testing, you could give it a try.)

So it is essentially a bad idea to use JV16 2012 in Windows 8. I really wish the company had made it a bit clearer after the installation.

Indeed jv16 PowerTools 12 is not developed for Windows 8.

As Leonardo wrote, you'll have to use the 2013 versions.

The Macecraft home page says of jv16 PowerTools 2012 "All products compatible with Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000. Both 32 bit and 64 bit systems." Apparently that is not fully true for Windows 8.

The page has another issue. The "Read more ..." link for jv16 PowerTools 2012 brings up the "Read more ..." information for PowerTools Lite EX 2013.

The jv16 PowerTools 2012 was tested on a Beta version of Win 8, thus it is not fully compatible with the officially released Win 8. The 2013 version will be fully compatible as we are able to test the software with the released version. We do apologizes for any inconvenience.

I use Win 8 & made the mistake of running fix but then realising that my themes no longer showed correctly, I thankfully restored the backup then I just set it to ignore the .theme & .themepack entries, once I'd restarted the computer everything was fine.

Btw any update on the release of PT 2013?

jv16PT 2013 Release Candidate 1 was released yesterday. Please see: http://www.macecraft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5294#p32255 .

So normally the official jv16PT 2013 release will follow in 3-4 weeks.
