Registry Cleaner often hanging in Win 8

Since installing Win 8 a couple of weeks ago, Registry Cleaner often hangs at about 325k keys and 177k values analyzed. Usually, aborting, closing and reopening solves it, but today it hasn't it. Any ideas?

Antivirus is the most likely culprit. Or maybe there are some new safety mechanisms in Windows 8 and you don't have enough privileges or , then again, maybe your hardware isn't good enough. Maybe your RAM is low?

i7 2600k, 16gb ram, SAS Pro (MS seemed to have disabled Win Defender when another anti-malware app is running), dual boot Win 8/7, been using jv16PT with SAS Pro for many years.

Are you using jv16PT-2012 version 2.1.0.1173?

If so, first try try the latest Registry Cleaner: See http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/PTLiteEx_setup.exe .

I am using the latest jvPT 2012. No problem using the Lite version, but why?

jv16PT2.1.0.1173 was developed before the release of W8. As far as I know the LiteEX2013 version has W8 support.

Only problem is that it seems to have hung on "performing initial setup." It's been a lot more than 2-10 minutes.

Update: While the first one is still hung, I ran it from the desktop icon and it did the initial setup ok.

Update 2: Ran Lite's registry cleaner and it's hung the first time too. Run again and this time ok.

So is the bottom line: PTLiteEX-2013 does clean your W8 registry? (I am not a W8 user!)

It did. But then so does 2012 sometimes.

Then wait for the jv16PT-2013 beta to start 'within a few day's'.

This version should have full W8 support, same as PTLiteEX-2013!

I have no problems with Registry Cleaner in PowerTools Lite EX 2013 on my Windows 8 64 bit system.

jv16 PowerTools 2012 was not developed with the final version of Win 8 thus it is not fully compatible. The Lite and Lite Ex were developed with the final and released version of Win 8, thus being compatible with it. I am happy to say that we have started the beta testing and the first beta version can be found in the beta testing section.

Have to laugh, the beta install hung too, although the install itself completed. About to report it.

The intention is that every post on any forum thread should be clear by itself. Yes, sometime later I looked at the jv16PT2013-beta1 forum tread and that clarified it!

However for users only looking at the jv16PT 2012 forum thread it cannot be clear!
