I have upgrade my PC to a Win7 and PowerTools 2012 (from jv16 PT 2008)

My favorite function was the "Software Manager" function.

When installing a new program in Win XP, I was not completely safe with or did not know if I would keep - I open PowerTolls 2008 / "Software Manager" and right clicked all Items and mark them as old

Then Installed the new Program

though, If I did not want that new program - I run the uninstaller of the program. Then go to PT / "Software Manager". Find the new Item/s and click "Custom Uninstall" / "Find Registry keys / and delete the found keys

I guess its a very safe method to clean up after trying a program

How can i do something similar in the 2012 edition?

The 2012 version also includes the Software Manager, it's just renamed as Software Uninstaller, or "Fully remove software and leftovers" in the home screen.

PS. I modified the caption of the thread to be more informative.

Thanks for your reply - I have already been looking at the function: "Fully remove software and leftovers"

First - I cannot find out a easy way to mark all the item as old

Second - the old "software Manager" shows also sottware "leftovers" even though I had uninstall the program win the enclosed "uninstaller" (I wass looking and searching both in the "Author" and the "Software" columns to find leftovers)

with the new "Software Uninstaller": - Will leftovers (if any) after running the conventional uninstaller then be listed in the section "Installed software without uninstall info"?

Marking as "Old" or "New" maybe can be replaced by using "Tags".

Indeed. If you have tags enabled in the Settings Advanced Interface, then for any list with a "Tags" column, do this:

  • 1. CTRL-A (select all).

    2. Double click in the Tags column cell of any line.

    3. Check the "Old" box and click "OK"

I am so thankfully for your efforts to help - and had to repeat my self - I have already tried that

In Advanced Interface settings i have "Allow tags to be added to lines" enabled

When selected all and try tp add old - The whole box begins blinking blue, but the lines is not marked or tagged (new word) "old" - I f I am lucky one line is "tagged" old

Indeed, after selecting all entries and double clicking a cell in the Tags column, the screen starts to flicker in blue, but you can see a box with the possibility to select "Old" or "New" among other things.

When I choose e.g. "Old", not all entries are marked as "Old" (you are right), but almost all of them, except five or six.

So after deselecting all entries, I can mark the remaining entries one by one as "Old" and I'm done.

Surprise: Using W7-SP1-x64 with build 1171 nothing seems to happen when you do the following:

a. Double click in the Tags column cell of any line.

b. Check the "Old", "New" or "Importand" box and than click "OK".

Perhaps you are doing something other than the exact 1-2-3 mentioned?

Tullik you are absolutely right. I only highlighted "Old" and did not check "Old", before I clicked OK!

It's weird...

When I have selected all lines and then double click somewhere in the tags column, not all lines are highlighted: six lines in the upper part are not.

So when I check e.g. "Old", six lines are not tagged with "Old" :(

This happens every time I try and with all recent build versions.

One thing is that tagging items as old is not working well (just try to mark some of the items and get them tagged...) but in my view it's a minor problem

What I think is a bigger problem is that Powertool 2012 "Software Manager" does not find Leftovers after running the default uninstaller

I tried to uninstall a program called Roboform and then run the Software Manager both from the 2008 edition and the 2012 edition

Here is what PowerTools 2008 Software Manager find after the uninstall:

There is no screendump from Powertools 2012 edition cause it finds nothing????

Yes indeed, there seems to be a (minor) bug in the process of adding tags after first 'selecting all' items.

After you uninstalled Roboform, did you run Registry Cleaner with the below settings?

If so, did not Registry Cleaner find those leftover Roboform keys?

.

RegistryCleaner_settings.jpg

Yes indeed - it finds them .. together with a long list of other items

it takes a man to find the right "roboform" (or whatever you are looking after) items to delete

I thing the old way to find those registry keys as shown in my first post and the precious post was much easier, user friendly and safe

Is that not strongly related to the way you are used to work with jv16PT2008?

Why would you like to see the specific leftover keys for (in this case) Roboform?

Or am I missing the point?

I uninstall a piece of software with either the programs own-, windows- or jv16PT-uninstaller and after that I finish with Registry Cleaner with the already mentioned setting.
