XP Pro Registry Compact Error 1722

I tried to use the jv16 Registry Compactor wwith the re-boot feature and as expected when the XP Pro SP3 machine started to res tart the dox-like box opened showing it was attempting to compact the registry -- but the error message appeared -- something like "Error 1722 RPC Service is Unavailable -- Failed to get full access to registry" ... aborting etc.

After hitting it returned and the machine proceeded to startup normally and I then selected the other compact option and it ran find apparently. My question is what would cause this problem on my machine since I am asssuming it is not a bug with jv16-11 because a search of this board only showed the error 1722 associated with a beta version of from jv-2010 or some such. All thoughts will be appreciated .. TGH

Are you referring to jv16PT 2011 build1053?

Reading your post I remembered I had this issue too in June 2010 during the beta testing of jv16PT2010-RC1.

The issue was never confirmed as a jv16PT bug, but 'disappeared' after a while with the release of a new beta version. However I never found out what caused it.

Is the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service not one of those Windows Software Service that can be switched ON and OFF?

Vasek -- Thanks for the much improved google search criteria vs the one I used but still didn't see anything that can help me (as a very experienced user but not windows expert).

Leonardo -- I saw some of the linked posts from your note when I did an initial search here but again they seem related to a bug that was fixed in jv16 2010 - right? And to answer your question I did find the sys information/services tool and it shows Remote Procedure Call (RPC) as Running and in Auto start mode. Is that what you are asking about?

I don't see a way to switch it on or off easily and not sure if I would want to try that even if I could ... I'm just trying to first verify its not a jv16 problem and as that seems to be the case, determine if I should be concerned about the 1722 error / what to do about it etc. Thanks again to you both ... 1 .According to jv16 the 2010 registry compactor bug fix and the disappearance of my 'RPC service not found' at the same time was a coincidence.

2. jv16PT System Services showing Remote Procedure Call (RPC) as 'Running and in Auto start mode' is indeed what I meant.

3. Because in 2010 no other XP-P3 users could confirm the 'RPC services not found' I assumed it was related to my XP system and not to jv16PT2010.
