There is something wrong with Registry Compactor.

The UAC window of the second phase keeps popping up with each new reboot of the system.

That problem was already reported while betatesting PowerTools 2010:

Fortunately it finally stopped popping up after the fourth reboot (sigh of relief...)

I think I'm not going to run Registry Compactor again in the next months.

Luckily I have another Registry Defrag program I use without any problem.

I'm not sure why the Registry Compactor "works" on my system, but it does.

Where it worked on one of the special Vasek builds (please don't ask which one, I can't remember what I did an hour ago :\).

One needs to really read the logs to see that it worked (unless I *really* botched reading the logs, which is possible :\), although, it does seem to fail trying to compact several logs that has already been compacted and locked. I'm not dismissing that there are problems with the compactor, enough posts prove that something's up, however, I am open to having JV look at my system to see if there is something that can help solve the problem.

Siliconman01 reported this 2011 registry compactor issue already a few month's ago (and to which jv16 has responded!)

With both W7 32bit and 64bit the jv16PT2011 Registry Compactor Phase II only completes without problems if the

UAC is 100% disabled before the start of the Registry Compactor. I can confirm this for W7-SP1 32bit.

I do no like to disable UAC.

Principally the Registry Compactor should run properly even with UAC enabled.

I can confirm that Registry Defrag from TuneUp Utilities runs without problem with UAC enabled.

So it's NOT an issue caused by Windows 7 as I have read somewhere here on the forum if I remember correctly.

I know Siliconman01 mentioned the issue where phase 2 of Registry Compactor got blocked by UAC when rebooting, but here and now I report another issue, even worse: when running Registry Compactor (UAC enabled) the UAC window about the 2nd phase pops up with each new reboot and this several times successively.

During betatests of version 2010 we had the same issue (as I mentioned in my previous post) and finally that issue got fixed (even with UAC enabled). Now in version 2011 it came back.

I have noticed that programs which do not normally work on the Administrator account when UAC is enabled will work under a user account when run with administrative priviledges. This is how I run ERUNT and NTREGOPT without disabling UAC on my system.

If I remember well, there was a blank last column added in previous jv16PT versions to solve this problem.

That blank last column seems to be gone now.

If you check Settings-->Advanced Interface-->List options-->Allow tags to be added to lines, this problem goes away.

There is a minor bug. Namely, after you check the box, you have to close and restart PowerTools before the Tag column will be on the list.

This issue is now fixed, thank you for reporting!

One neat improvement is to the debug system: starting with this build, testers no longer need to send over the BugReport.txt file from the program's installation directory. The file is automatically appended to the Debug Log html file that is generated to the desktop.

I'm afraid I wasn't able to solve the problem we worked with Vasek. For some reason the program crashes in computers with Czech version of Windows.

I don´t see the automatically appended file... See jv16PT_debuglog_startupfailed.html

A next crash. I suggest that you write a note on the changelog: "Known issue".

Hi again!

I have some news! Now I can confirm, that the bug is really affected by the Windows language support for non-Unicode programs, because when I changed the language to English (US) - so my Win are still in Czech, only the non-Unicode language is set to EN - jv16 installs and runs correctly!

Logs included.

Please attach the Debug Log.html to this forum thread containing only this eror issue.

First put jv16PT in DEBUG mode (press Ctrl+Shift after the start of jv16PT, enable Debug mode and restart jv16PT)

Than recreate the error situation.

The "start issue"occurs probably on the systems with some special Unicode characters (Eastern and Middle Europe, China etc).

IMHO: The official release was premature, I´m affraid...

I added a new debuglog (I clicked also Continue application instead Exit only).

How to create a Debug Log (if PowerTools not start):

In "C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2011" create an empty (or with one space) file DebugMode.dat (not DebugMode.dat.txt). Start PowerTools again. The Debug Log file is saved to your desktop with the name of "jv16PT_debuglog.html".

The File Tools mouseover popup boxes (??? nomenclature?) extend beyond the page frame.
