Bug fix: Open in RegEdit feature does not open in some non-English versions of Windows.


Bug fix: Clean and Fix My Computer can crash if used with the Tag feature disabled.
Bug fix: The files ...\Cache\ProgramDirs.dat and ...\Cache\SearchDirs.dat can contain empty lines.
Bug fix: If you change a backup's description in the Backup Tool the change shows in the list immediately. However, if you close the tool and start it again in the same session, the change no longer shows. It will show in a new session.
Bug: The tooltips of Main Window's health gauges are not correct.
Bug: The program can display items of certain Anti-Virus products even if the option to ignore all data relating to Anti-Virus products has been selected under Additional Safety tab.
Bug fix: The program still lists data by Alwil/Avast anti-virus even with the option to skip all data relating to anti-virus software enabled.
Bug fix: The program can access the floppy disk drive while performing the registry scan.
Bug fix: The main window's health gauges are not always correctly updated after an operation such as a registry cleanup.
Bug fix: It's not always possible to start the File Recovery tool using the Search by size feature.
Bug fix: The program can crash or freeze while fixing certain types of registry errors.

Improvement: The program will automatically search for a license during the Initial Setup.
Improvement: Improved the startup time of the program.
Improvement: Improved the program's ability to find temp files.
Improvement: Main window's Help menu no longer shows the Report Bug feature if you are running a beta level software. For beta level software, you should use the Report Bug feature under the Main window's Debug menu.

Did we miss any critical fixes or updates? Or does the new build contain any new bugs? If not, this build will be officially released shortly.

Unfortunately yes, the program cannot start in Windows Vista SP2 Czech... At first (after UAC) it will appear dialog - see Startupfailed.jpg and then a crash - see bugreport_startupfailed.txt and jv16PT_debuglog_startupfailed.html in debuglogs.zip.

I'm afraid I wasn't able to fix any of these issues. The last issue is most likely a problem with the list control, and in such case it will be fixed in PowerTools 2012 with the complete rewrite of the list control component.

I'm afraid I wasn't able to fix any of these issues. The last issue is most likely a problem with the list control, and in such case it will be fixed in PowerTools 2012 with the complete rewrite of the list control component.

That is a real pity, especially for the 2 nasty problems, reported already a long time ago.

1. Registry Compaction in W7. If User Account Control (UAC) is active, Phase II of registry compact does not run....., reported by Siliconman01.

2. jv16PT2011 hangup if (by use of the Maintenance Tool) there are no backup files left anymore.

I'm afraid this is a safety feature of Windows and I don't think there is anything we can do about it. Only thing to do is to warn the user if he attempts to use the Registry Compactor with UAC enabled. The problem itself is not serious, no harm is done, only the second step of the compaction doesn't run which causes the program of not achieving maximal compaction.

It attempts to fix the Clean and Fix My Computer crash and the program not starting properly problem you reported. If either problem still exists, please send the debug logs created with the new version. I added some more debug code so the program will now give me more information about the problem if it still occurs. Thanks!

Hi folks, been awhile. After installing the latest build (1030) on a Win 7 Pro x64 machine, I ran several of my usual functions with no problems. However, I did remove some entries for a driver package for a new monitor I had to get a few weeks ago. The machine had survived several reboots since then with no apparent problems for the new missing driver entries. I decided to remove the back-ups for the entries. The entries were successfully removed, but the child window failed to refresh and froze. I was able to close the main application but the child window remained, apparently separated from the main application :|

The process jv.exe (whatever it's called) remained. I was able to make a mini-dump of the process and ran in through Win Debug. The dump, zipped, runs about 8 MGbs and won't upload. I copied the output and pasted it into a text file and am attaching it. Finally, I had to kill the the process to end it, no bugreport that contained any information of the anomaly was produced, naturally :\

I'm unsure if this is relevant since I have not tested it yet with the new build, however, I successfully ran the compactor in May and it worked fine while using UAC on its highest setting. See the attached.

The new debuglogs_startupfailed.zip. Without the crash - the dialog will appear after click on the button OK again.

Win 7 Pro x64 SP1

The issue with the back-up tool, deleting entries and freezing is 100% reproducible on my system. However, the child window now refreshes before freezing. I can still close the main application but the child window remains and the process must be must be terminated manually.

I love computers, don't you?

I re-read your post about the back-up tool, Leonardo. Curious, I went through my program files to find if any back-ups (the hidden ones) were made. I have my system set to view all file and extensions.

Perusing: C:\Program Files (x86)\jv16 PowerTools 2011\Backups, I can only find a back-up of my license file. I looked through all the directories and could not find any other place that these hidden back-ups may be. Maybe you could enlighten me where they are and what they might be called.

As far as I know, I didn't use the Program Maintenance Tool, just the back-up tool, pardon Backup Tool. So, for laughs, I just opened JV PT and opened the Backup Tool and immediately, the tool froze :\ Something is obviously awry, since I have only deleted back-ups of entries I have made. If these "hidden" back-ups are gone, I haven't done it knowingly.

More laughs to come, and I certainly hope Vasek gets his/her problem solved, that would seem to be the more pressing issue at this time.

edit: I'm still having problems with the use of arrow keys to scroll through entries. It's gotten so bad now, that I can't even trust clicking, which always used to work. I'm wondering if all the changes made in VC runtimes are part of the problem, messing with the GUI.

At the time of jv16PT installation a number of backups are taken and stored in the directory C Files\jv16PT\Backups\ .

However the Backup Tool does not show these backups and that is why I call them 'hidden'.

If only these backups are present, without any user initiated backups, the Backup Tools shows no items and the Backup Tool window does not freeze!

If these 'hidden' backups have aged enough the Program maintenance function can remove them.

Because the 'hidden' backups do not show in the Backup Tool, the user normally does not delete them.

At the moment that no backups show up in the directory C Files\jv16PT\Backups\ the Backup Tool window freezes.
