No search tool can find that file name. I did not ask for the file name to be encrypted.

That's a bug. I submitted these two Bug reports last week:

Bug summary: A file can be lost when using the File Encryptor.
Description: To reproduce:
1. Create a file, named aaa.txt, containing any text content, on the desktop.
2. Start PowerTools and start the File Tool.
3. Drag aaa.txt to the File Tool window.
4. Select the file and click the Encrypt icon.
5. No "Advanced security options" are checked.
6. Click Start without entering a password.
7. The file will disappear.
