I am using Windows Vista Basic with servicepack 2 installed and all updates are installed. My Windows Update runs apperently OK, but WindowsUpdate.log shows the following again and again:
"FATAL: UH: 0x80070490: EvaluateApplicability failed in CCbs:."
I have no other indications of anything should be wrong as all updates installs without problems. I have noticed that other Windows Vista PC's without JV16 software has the same FATAL errors in the WindowsUpdate.log.
Therefore I have asked Microsoft Customer Support about the problem and they give me the following answer, which worries me:
There is an error which spans over a large system - and sometimes the Windows Update/CBS manage to install the available updates, but if the error continues to occur and the system is not repaired or reinstalled Windows Update will eventually fail and it will no longer be possible to install some updates.
Problems with the file corruption arises in particular using third party tools to clean the registry database, sector failure of hard disk, overwritten files, etc.. - and are usually resolved by a repair or a reinstall of the system.
Does your WindowsUpdate.log (C:\windows\windowsupdate.log) have the same FATAL error (search for fatal in the logfile)?
Does JV16 Registry Cleaning cause the problem, as Microsoft suggests?
Do you have any explanation of what causes the log error, without signalling to the user, that an error is founf?
Thanks for listening to me.
Kind regards
Steffen
