I tried to use this function on a 180gb disk of files.

It completed the first step (to find all the files) but hung on the second stage --- it just keep running and running (over 6 to 8 hrs) using 50% of CPU cycles on a moderately fast dual core, but no completion.

The process can be killed, however.

Notice others had the same problem --- please fix.

Windows 7 x64 version.

Seems like a lot of extra attractions and features in JV16 have a mind of their own. Duplicate file finder representing another one of those among many as posted in this forum.

However, as I did experience the same problem as you, I moved UP to "beyond Compare" that has proven to be an excellent program to compare files of all type, very fast and very accurate. Give it a shot and I do believe a free trial version is available.

Now, for disk wiping, as I experienced all sorts of problems with JV16, I moved UP to R-wipe and clean and that also has proven to be an irreplaceable software when it comes to functionality, reliability, and speed.

JV16 is in my arsenal just for cleaning the registry and that is all. I've been using the product since I believe mid 90's when it used to be completely free. Advanced System Care 3 does a great job too.

Good luck

Confirmed for XP-SP3 with both v2.0.0.986 and v2.0.0.996(2011 beta5)

I assume you let the tool search for all duplicates on the whole 180 GB drive.

The handbook says:

"Notice that this tool requires substantial system resources. Limiting the directories or disks will help in its performance."

And about the possible options its says:

"• Skip deep directory structures to improve speed.

• Skip files larger than 100 MB to improve speed

• Disable cross-drive checking to improve speed. If enabled the tool will not cross check duplication across different directories."

Maybe it's not surprising the operation hung.
