Hello Peter,
Is that while scanning or at rest after a scan?
I just had another close look:
During run of RegS Pro the cpu jumped up to 99%/ramusage to 14.900 k
As soon as the search ended (found 3 rotten entries) cpu fell down to zero while Ram-usage stayed at 15.000 k.
When I closed RS Pro usage fell to zero after 5 seconds.
------------------------------
One thing is for sure,I recognize those symptoms.Runaway memory with a program invariably leads to lockup.
This could be the case but I couldn`t tell you why this happens our your machine.
------------------------------
I am not that trusting and have very good reason to be that way.
The first time I used RS Pro, I deleted some socalled useless
extensions.Next thing i find is that several of my graphics
programs no longer work.I could go on,but the list is long
In this special case I believe you of course!
That reminds me........there HAS been another problem with RegSupreme (lightweight!) on my son`s ACER-notebook.
To gain some room in registry I had installed the "try-out-RegSup on his machine and he started the search.
On aggressive there were about 400 items found and he deleted the lot with the result that some of his special microsoft-progs didn`t work anymore.
A prog which only micro-dealers use; Michael has a small software-business and is Microstuff-salesman.
Along with that another server-prog did not work as he is using the laptop also as a server-station for his office. PC-ANYWHERE was also killed. (I don`t understand the server-stuff to be honest)
Anyway.........just in returning the back-ups from RS did NOT heal the damaged progs, he had to install them again. (He was a bit annoyed....)
Therefore I could not convince him to buy and use RS.
--------------------
There is no doubt that I probably have much more on my computer than you.I do a lot of graphics work. Also I test
a lot of programs for a computer club.
In the last 2 years I must have tested close to 800 programs.
That is certainly more than I do! I am just a "leasure-time-user".
---------------------------------
RAM.Actually at the moment Virtual Memory is set to 3x
Ram making it about 3000MB ,plenty for the work I do.
Agree!
How about a benchmark on your cpu/RAM for a check?
----------------------------
Interesting story about the Omega driver.I appreciate your
honesty. It shows you what I was talking about.
BTW I have an ATI graphics card as well.
Great for my dual monitor setup.
The other day I installed my second 19' TFT monitor just for a try for duality.
With ATI Control Center I was able to fix both. I just couldn`t manage to receive an identical quality in gamma/colours no matter what.
In the end I blamed the graphic-card ATI Radeon 9800XT for it cos it has only one DVI-connection whereas the second moni had to go on VGA-cable.......never mind.
----------------------
Anyway,I will stick to my checking.
You are free to do so!
---------------
Even the RS Pro documentation will tell you that.
I haven`t been tru that one yet cos it`s "only" in English.............:
But keep in mind: NO cleaner guaranties a complete and safe mode!!
The registry is just to "sensitive". BUT JV`s tools are nearly perfect.
---------------------------
Very often I do a quick registry edit ,rather than wiping
out the "bad" entry found in RS Pro.
I also started to "fumble" in registry by hand, but VERY careful!
------------------------------
As soon as I have a chance I will try your suggestion
of placing the paging file on my second drive.
You can`t go wrong with that. I have read this proposal in various pc-magazines now.
---------------------
I am using another fresh tool which defrags the drivers better than the inbuild XP-defrag.
It is called PERFECT DISK 7.0
Cheerio!
