Every time I install a new update of PT 2010, I have to enter all the install settings. It would be nice if the install program remembered the install settings from the prior install and asked whether you wanted to use those same settings again.

Do you mean with "install settings" e.g. which directory to install jv16PT in, choise of languages, a start menu entry, ...etc...?.

Specifying these takes about 30 sec during installation!

The 'settings' of jv16PT itself are something else, these can be saved (just like the Back Up files) during uninstall and reused during install of the jv16PT update.

I mean the former. It may take only 30 seconds to modify the defaults but since the updates come out every few weeks (at least currently), it's an annoyance (albeit minor). JVPT2009 did remember these install settings.

Thank you, that cleared it.

If you install a new version of PowerTools over a previous version of PowerTools 2010, it should remember all the settings. It doesn't? If not, what settings does it forget?

To jump in here, when installing a new version over PowerTools 2010, it doesn't remember Translation settings (all are selected, but I only want English) and Handbook setting (not selected, but it should be). Shortcuts setting does seem to remember (that I don't want the Quick Launch icon).

Ah, now I understand, you are referring to the settings of the installer of PowerTools, not to PowerTools itself.

We'll see if it would be possible to make the installer remember its settings.

During Uninstall the jv16PT 'Settings' and 'BackUps' can be saved in the jv16PT installation directory. Why not include this 'Uninstall.xml' file?

Good idea, if that does the trick, we'll (i.e. Hukka) improve the uninstaller so that if user checks the option to save PT's Settings, also the Uninstall.xml is saved.

In my case, I'm taking about installing an update over an existing PT2010 installation. The install settings that I have to manually enter each time include the Program Files folder name (I don't include the year), the shortcut name (I don't include the year), the option to install the malware feature, the option not to install non-English language handbooks, and whether and where to install shortcuts.

While I'm on the subject, the requirement to uninstall the prior year's program (here, PT2009) could be built into the install routine for the current year's program (here, 2010). Even Java finally got around to incorporating this after many years of permitting installation of multiple iterations of itself.

I'm afraid the installer doesn't know how to read the uninstall.xml. But Hukka did a change that allows the Installer to save its settings to the registry.

So starting with the next build, the installer will remember the previous installation settings.

Running XP-Pro-SP3 and Win7 x86 Professional:

After a clean install of build 967, followed by an uninstall of build 967 (kept Settings + Back-Ups) and a re-install of build 967, I can confirm that the

'install settings' are carried forward to the install of the next jv16PT version!
