There's something wrong with Registry Monitor's Compare function.

Build 2.0.0.966

(maybe in previous builds also - didn't check this function previously)

I selected a Snapshot (made with default settings) > Compare (with default settings) > Start

The little wheel (hourglass) is spinning, but in the message box "Working. This might take a while. Please wait..." the values of "Keys analyzed" and "Values analayzed" keep staying both on "0".

The memory use of jv16PT.exe *32 is ca 177.000 kB (normally when starting PowerTools ca 55.000 kB) and the CPU usage 0% - 1%.

Obviously the compare process isn't working and after 10 miniutes I aborted the operation. Nothing happened at all during "Comparing".

It's repeatable: it tried it several times without any success.

With XP-Pro-SP3 and jv16PT 2.0.0.966 the comparison of the registry to a taken snapshot works as expected (repeatedly!

Probably it's a Windows 7 (64-bit) problem?

It is not a Win7 x64 problem - I have tried this on 2 different Win7 x64 installations and it works perfectly on both.

I have tried a number of times on both installations and is not able to reproduce the problem.

Thank you, Aagaard, that's very interesting. So it must have something to do with my own system.

I think I'll have to make a debug report and send it to Macecraft

If you have anything to comment, send me a Private Message, do not reply to this thread. Thank you.

I already sent you two PM. However you did not reply, so I'll reply to this thread.

In one pm you asked me if you could send me a file in order to track the cause of the slider problems.

I agreed in order to help you and sort out the problem.

No respons and now you are giving me a second warning???

I have tried the following:

Could you also try to run the program in English? According to the Debug Log, you used the program using your Dutch translation. I'm curious to see if that makes a difference.

I already did it, but I forgot to mention that: changing the language makes no difference :

Edited:

I changed now the language to English once again and made a new snapshot. When I want to compare with the actual registry status I have the same problems as previously reported:

The little wheel (hourglass) is spinning, but in the message box "Working. This might take a while. Please wait..." the values of "Keys analyzed" and "Values analayzed" keep staying both on "0".

It looks like Compare is not able to create a new temporary snapshot of the actual registry status.

I uninstalled jv16 PowerTools 2010 build 966.

I reinstalled it with only the English language.

With Registry Monitor I created a new Snapshot (as always without any problem).

When I run Compare => nothing to do. Same problems as previously reported.

Conclusion: language makes no difference for the reported problem.

Unfortunately, thank you for trying.

What kind of snapshot do you first create before doing the compare, do you do a full snapshot or only partial? Does this make a difference? Do you use the default options when starting the compare?

And also, do you compare two snapshots against each other, or one snapshot against the current state of the registry? In other words, do you select one snapshot or two snapshots before clicking Compare?

Windows 7 x64 Professional

Test 1

1. Full Snapshot created

2. Compare Snapshot to current state

3. Worked fine

Test 2

1. Created a second full snapshot

2. Compared snapshot 1 to snapshot 2

3. Worked fine.

Windows 7 x86 Professional

1 Created Full Snapshot

2 Ran Compare of shapshot to current state.

3. Froze on "working"

4. On aborting the compare, jv16 crashed.
