I installed the latest upgrade of PowerTools 2010 last night, version .964, because the previous version was not opening properly. This new version opens properly and seems to work fine, but now it won't close properly. After I've closed it, I can look in the Task Manager, and I'll find it's still there, trying desperately to close. I have to close it manually from there, or I have to wait until a warning sign comes up in Windows (XP) saying that JV16 Power Tools failed to close, and would I like to end the program now.

Can you run jv16PT build 964 in DEBUG mode?

Does the closing of jv16.exe, either trough Task Manager or Windows XP 'end program', create a Bugreport.txt in the jv16PT installation directory?

Don't know how to run the program in "debug" mode.

Yes, the failure to close creates a bugreport text. Do you want me to copy and send via this message board? (Sorry, never had a problem with any of the JV16 Power Tools programs for all the years I've been using them, until now. So I don't know what the procedures are for diagnosing and getting help.)

John

The bare minimum needed is the zipped Bugreport.txt attached to a postreply on this forum thread.

But the best thing to do is first read topic: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=4112#p24644

This tells you how to get in 'DEBUG' mode and create the files 'Debug Log.html' + 'Bugreport.txt'.

After that you should upload these files to Macecraft 'BugTracker', http://www.macecraft.com/bugtracker/

OK, done. And I've tried the program three or four times since, and each time it fails to close properly.

Thank you, It will take a few day's before you see your bug report show up in BugTracker.

One other interesting thing, which I will play with longer to verify. It appears that the program does close properly if I click on "Exit" from the pull-down "File" menu. But I'm used to clicking on the top-right X to close programs, which is giving me the grief. So it appears that the menu "Exit" and the "X" exit may not be working the same way. As I say, I'll experiment further.

John

Both File, Exit and clicking 'X' work normally for me.

I'm an X-clicker myself and 964 closes properly for me.

John you said it was happening too w/the previous version. Have you tried un-installing and re-installing?

Laserfan,

No, with the previous version I had trouble starting the program; it would sometimes hang up and freeze, forcing me to restart the computer. Now, with this new upgrade, I have no trouble starting at all, and I've tested it several dozen times in the last two days.

It's just that now closing (shutting down) is a minor problem. I just tried it again a few times, and while clicking on "Exit" ends the program every time, clicking on the upper-right-hand "X" closes it only about half the time. The other half of the time, the program appears to close (that is, it disappears from view), but it is still not completely shut down and shows up in the Task Manager until manually closed from there or until a Windows warning sign comes on asking if I want to shut it down.

John

Hi

I also had very similar problems with .964 even though .963 ran without difficulty; .964 would not close properly when clicking upper right-hand 'x' however I did not attempt to use 'Exit'.

I have now uninstalled and reverted back to .963 which seems to run fine with my type of use.

BTW, running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.

Cheers

You are running W7-Home-Premium and not XP like J.Puccio.

Could you test .964 again on closing jv16PT with clicking File->'Exit', next to closing with clicking upper right-hand 'X'?

Today (Monday, Aug. 2), I can't even get the "Exit" function to work. Whether I hit "Exit" from the pull-down menu or click on the "X," the program fails to terminate properly. The program disappears from the screen, but a check of Task Manager shows it's still running. Again, I have to shut it down from Task Manager or wait until Windows asks me if I want to terminate it.

Hi

I just reinstalled .964 and played around a bit. Firstly, if I simply open the program and display the User Interface but do nothing else it is possible to then close without any problems using the right-hand 'X' or FILE_EXIT. In this instance JV16 closes properly and is not visible in Task Manager.

However, if I open the program and then use for example 'Clean and Fix' or 'History Cleaner' the program does then not close properly using either of the two methods described above. As John has written previously, the program appears to close but is still visible in 'Task Manager' or if left longer a System warning will appear stating that the program has not closed.

Using Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.

To run jv16PT build 966 in DEBUG mode and create and sent both Bugreport.txt and Debug log.html to Macecraft/Bugtracker.

Hi

Thanks Leonardo, have just submitted bug report files.

Cheers

Like celticprince, the new ver. 966 behaves exactly the same as the older one. It won't close properly (with either "exit" or "X"). The program disappears from the screen, but it isn't actually closed. I have to go to the Task Manager to close the thing.

Like celticprince, the new version 966 fails to close the program properly (with either "Exit" or "X"). The program disappears from view, but the Task Manager shows it's still running and not shut down. I have to shut it down from there.

If you wait a while (~1-2 min) before using Task Manager to close, do you than get an application error screen: "Program Freeze"?
