Hi!

I have installed B963. Now, the installation of B964 brings up the following error message

"Could not create uninstall data file"

during the installation process and after clicking OK the installer is closed. As recommended by the software I tried to install the program over the old version B963 into the same directory. I checked all boxes in the installer as I did at B963.

I now tried to remove the uninstall.dat before the installation and on another try the complete uninstall directory, but the error message is always coming up. After having removed the uninstall directory the installation process only creates that directory and inside it a new unistall.dat with 0 bytes.

What can I do?

Greetings,

Ralf (Germany)

I know the program recommends differently, but before installation of a new version, I always uninstall the previous version keeping settings and backups.

During installation of build 964 I had no problems with the creation of the uninstall directory.

Did you know that in fact you do not need an uninstaller to uninstall jv16 PowerTools partially or completely? Just remove the directory the program is installed in to "uninstall" the program completely or keep the desired subdirectories such as the backups, settings, snapshots, etc. and remove the others...

Hi!

Version B963 was installed in a new directory, no problems. Its not a good idea to erase the jv16 powertools directory since then the licence file would be deleted too.

Now, is it an official advice from the developement team to ignore the recommendation of the program and should the old version therefore first be deinstalled?

Greetings,

Ralf

No it's not. We do not see any reasons for uninstalling while updating.

I don't even use jv16 PowerTools 2010 with Windows 7. It works great with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 but not with Windows 7. It doesn't install correctly and/or it doesn't function properly with Windows 7. I use RegSupreme Pro with Windows 7. That works pretty good with Windows 7.

Which 2010 version do you use: jv16PT-963 or jv16PT-964? Version 964 was specially released to circumvent the install problems of version 963 with certain AV products.

Isn't version 961 RC1?

That's right.

After 961 RC1 followed the final version. Meanwhile there were some corrected (final) builds released.

The most recent version of PowerTools 2010 is build 2.0.0.964.

Please give it a try.

You can download it here.

In fact it is possible to download older (final) versions of the program (e.g. PT 2009), but I'm afraid that is not possible for beta's or RC's and I guess it never will.

Version 961=version 961-RC1=first official release of jv16PT-2010.

What kind of error message do you get during uninstall and how do you uninstall version 961?

I have no more problems with build 964 than with build 963 on the contrary. Build 964 addresses several issues which existed in build 963 and also an install/uninstall problem.

Why not recommend to update (>< upgrade) to build 964?

Note: OS = Windows 7 64-bit.

Build 964 does work with Windows 7 and as far as I know the installation problems are fixed now.

RegSupreme Pro is in fact an obsolete program which isn't supported anymore by Macecraft. RegSupreme and RegSupreme Pro are discontinued.

... I never had installation problems

Me neither.

however I still can not use the 964 (and 963) version with my Windows 7 system. It crashes when I choose another engine setting for the registry cleaner.

I don't have that crash problem after using that slider.

I have done all this already before repeatedly to test that problem out and I never had any crash.

Repeated those tests again after your post and the program won't crash and no error messages.
