Installation problems (was: New build not installing OK..)

I have had the same problems as in Build 963 will not install on Windows 7 x86 Professional but running Vista Home Premium. After a few tries it looked to have insatlled but kept having problems so tried uninstalling and again couldn't. To reboot I had to do a hard reset and got rid of the thing in safe mode. Going back to first build untill new one out with this problem sorted (lot of errers in CHKDSK after hard reset)

In other posts onn W7 problem solved by disabling N!S 2010 that has also worked for me. BUT clearly there is a problem with the installer with the new build as the "old" one worked OK with NIS running AND the result with the new build and botched install was inablty to uninstall AND problems with JVC and other programs which is why I tried to uninstall it.

I will have to rember to let others be BETA testers and hang on a few days befor installing new updates!

Yes, I agree that this new installer problem does appear to related to systems with NIS on them. I am running NIS 2011 Beta on my Windows 7 x86 Pro system. Disabling NIS AV does let the installer run. HOWEVER, something system level is not correct after the installer thinks it is done. If you open Windows Explorer and attempt to display the properties of folder jv16 PowerTools at C:\Program Files\jv6 PowerTools, the properties window will not open and Windows Explorer crashes. Rebooting will resolve this specific issue. The conflict is a pretty significant conflict because NIS reports no errors or problems, perhaps because it is somehow damaged by irsetup.exe.

The company that built the installer for jv16 can sort this all out.... I don't the time nor the knowledge to do so. Perhaps going back to the installer used pre-build 963 would be a temporary resolution.

I had to do a hard reboot to get out of the install, on reboot JVC appeared to have installed. But I had problems, the conflict?, as other programs were taking ages to do anything which is why I tried uninstalling JV16 which then needed a second hard reboot to get out of that. There were a lot of HD errors that Chkdsk sorted and safe mode got rid of JV16, NIS wouldn't have been loaded! So in my case the conflict went on, may be due to an apparrant but botched update install which added to the problems of hard resets.

I get the impressing poor updates like this cause more problems than the program sorts out normally and am thinking I need to do a disc image before trusting a JVC install in future which isn’t good.

I have added JVC 2010 to NIS exclusions but I really feel I shouldn't have to do this and neved had to befor.

I don't have Win 7 or Vista, but Win XP SP3 Pro.

The latest update just about locks up my computer, with irsetup.exe taking 99% CPU time.

Even Task Manager could not shut down irsetup.exe.

Restart Windows from Task Manager finally worked.

2 tries is my limit.

I use Norton AV 2010, though not the Internet Security product (NIS).

Please try to disable any Norton Anti-Virus or security software before installing jv16 PowerTools. There seems to be a problem between the installer of PowerTools and Norton.

This is no way affects PowerTools itself, the problem is in the installer and/or Norton.

My vote goes on the jv16 installer being the problem....not Norton. There are multi-millions of Norton users who have multi-millions of programs being installed/updated/revised every day. If Norton were the problem, it would show up in other program installers. The days of advising users to disable their AV when installing programs is long gone....when Windows XP became mature. JMO :

The "reps" at IndigoRose (forum) seem to be both arrogant and clueless in this matter. I will revert back to my JV2009 until this problem is fixed by them. I suggest Macecraft needs to raise HELL with IndigoRose. It seems that both NIS and NOD32 both have problems. Indigo blames it on the developers (Macecraft in this case) and the AV programs. Pure BS. :

Anybody who reviews JV2010 is going to be real unhappy if they have NIS installed.

I think that siliconman may be right that there are issues with Norton 2010 beyond the installer. I attempted to add PT2010 to the exclusions list of Norton's Real Time Scans. I clicked ADD and browsed to the PT 2010 directory. When I opened the folder and began to scroll down for the jv16.exe, the computer froze and pegged the CPU usage. I had to hard restart (Windows XP Pro). I tried this a second time with the identical result -- could not terminate processes with Task manager. I had no problem adding jv16_2009 to the exclusions list.

Norton Internet Security 2010 does not seemed to be damaged by the installer as far as I can tell and is running normally. I have not encountered any other issues with PT 2010 after install with NIS disabled. But, it seems that PT 2010 v963 doesn't play nicely with Norton 2010 even after the install at least when trying to add it to the exclusions list.

I'm using Vista Home Premium with McAfee. I had problems as described above, with repeated "Microsoft Explorer has to close" errors.etc. I had to do a system restore to correct things, and am using the older version of jv16 that works ok. Hopefully Mace will send out an advisory when the installer problem is corrected.

I don't feel we can do anything else but wait for someone else to fix the problem. The problem is between the installer of PowerTools and some Anti-Virus products. If I would raise a finger, I'd say it's the Anti-Virus products that are messing it up, again. Could be a bug in the Installer as well, I can't really say.

With the problems I had installing/running/un-installing this program, I'm going to be hard pressed to install it again. I am running Norton Antivirus 2010 but I'm having a hard time blaming it when it's run flawless for me. I'm blaming the program (installer whatever). No other programs I've installed have exhibited these weird problems. Ccleaner runs fine with no issues. In this day and time, having a problem like this is just un-acceptable to me. You guys can hang but after my experience with it, I'm done.

Well, it's clearly not running flawless if it's not allowing a perfectly valid installer (that being of jv16 PowerTools) to run.

I have had no problem with installations/updates of previous versions of PT 2007 and PT 2009. Even the 2.0.0.961 of PT 2010 installed with no problem what-so-ever with NIS 2009 on my Vista 32 bit and NIS 2010 on my Windows 7 64 bit. Last night I tried the 2.0.0.963 update on my Vista 32 bit and the installation hangs at about 60%, task manager cannot end process and even gets stuck and the system is non-responsive, which caused me to do a hard shut-down. The hard shut-down caused some stability problems on re-booting. Finally after getting a stable system I cleared out all the PT 2010 files and folders as the failed and hung installation left the software hosed. The re-install of 2.0.0.961 went smooth as before. I'm having problems with others in this forum pointing to the AV's as the problem (Do you work for Macecraft or Indigo?). The installer for 2.0.0.961 did not have a problem. The problem seems to be with the installer for 2.0.0.963 and/or this new build. I don't think that PT 2010 was ready for prime time anyway due to the bugs, and now this just adds insult to injury. I agree with MIke89, my other software runs fine with no issues, and in this day and time, having this kind of problem is un-acceptable to me too.

Let's all remember that the previous beta worked fine. My system tells me that irsetup is unresponsive or stuck. My computer still works fine during the failed install, as does NIS. I can open NIS, do scans whatever. To get out of the failed install I use task manager. The computer/NIS are stll working fine afterwards.

When I turn Heuristic Protection off in NIS, the install still fails.

I wonder why such a "great" company like IndigoRose is unable to test their software. It would cost them $30 to purchase NIS and test for themselves. Baffles me.

I'm just having a hard time with this "blaming it entirely on the antivirus program". It's one thing for an antivirus program to flag something and give the user some kind of message of what happened and what was done. I would expect something like that to happen if the antirus mistakenly gave a false positive. This is entirely different. No antivirus messages of any kind. Just system freezes, partial installations, program runs one minute and fails to start the next, un-install hangs and has to be done manually. Something weird is certainly going on with this program that would cause this kind of behavior on the system being from the antivirus or whatever. Interesting only this one program does this kind of behavior which causes the user this big headache. Seems the blame game is being played here which is what happens sometimes when a problem pops up. My comments are not meant to trash any program, I'm simply giving my personal experiences with it and what I can accept and what I can't on my system. I downloaded this program for free since I had a previous license for RegSupreme so it's not that I'm bummed out about spending any money. I'm just not going to go through what I went through with this program again, especially when there are other comparable programs out there that run fine. I'm just one user and don't speak for anyone else.
