I just installed and ran the latest Trial Version of Macecraft Powertools. System is WinXP Home.

Some keys that were deleted by the program were not in fact deleted.

Is this a common problem possibly as a result of Permission issues? Does Powertools ever intend to leave a Key as a placeholder or for some other reason?

In most cases, if I click on the key that should have been deleted, I get a pop up message from Regedit stating that there is some problem opening the key. As I recall checking permissions in some cases may show a blank window.

In another case there was a Key and Subkey. I was able to manually delete both after a great deal of effort in learning how to work with permissions for Parent and Child folders.

The keys were typically in the Category of Obsolete Add/Remove Menu Entries.

Many thanks for any help.

Thanks all for the help and for confirming that this is a known problem.

On the few Keys that I manually deleted, I can confirm that a sequence of steps is required to get the Permissions where they need to be. It was even more complicated if there were both Parent and Child Folders.

I think I first noticed the problem when a Key was Fixed or Deleted but then showed up again in the next scan.

It seems as though in some cases part of a Key might have been removed and other parts remained, but I'm not sure of that. I do recall checking a Key and getting a pop up message that the key could not be opened.

I've also gotten a pop up saying that permissions are out of order and then given options of Fix or Reset which I need to understand.

Could this overall issue be complicated if there are multiple User Accounts on the PC?

That could result in programs being installed by different users with different permissions in each case. In addition, earlier User Accounts might no longer exist.

Thanks, KW

The developer already stated that the next release of jv16PT2010, probably released before the end of this month, will fix this issue.

If jv16PT-2010 could not fix/delete registry items that were listed as "to be fixed or deleted", the completion message at the end of a scan will clearly indicate this!

Thanks once again for the help.

I mentioned that in some cases Regedit responds with a message about Incorrectly Ordered Permissions.

This is apparently a bug that has affected WinXP and Microsoft has a Hotfix available

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899182

I don't know if this issue actually affects jv16 PowerTools, but thought I would pass it along.

This is the message provided by Regedit:

"The permissions on RegistryKeyName are incorrectly ordered, which may cause entries to be ineffective. Press OK to continue and sort permissions correctly, or Cancel to reset the permissions."
