Problems after using "Clean and fix my computer"

I have posted in another thread regarding this, but now have other issues as follows.

When starting out, after first installing and registering the software, I was advised my pc health was 57% and registry health was 32%. I ran Clean and fix my computer and sadly this made the values go down to 1% on both.

Another issue, is that I used to be able to click on a link in an email, for example a mail advising of an updated thread on a forum, and it would load the page in Firefox (my default browser). Sadly now what happens is that when I click on a link in my email client (Office 2007) I get an error as follows ...

General failure. The URL was (URL LISTED) An error occurred in sending the command to the application.

How can I get this functionality back again? I am sorry I ran the app now as it appears to have totally hosed my system :(

Apologies, I really shpuld have included that information, my bad :(

1. I am using Windows 7 Pro (X64) and the JV16 version is indeed 2.0.0.961

2. I left the scan as default (In the centre of the sliding selector) which just double checking is Normal System scan policy: all Windows-related data is skipped for additional safety. Only old temp files are listed.

3. I have restored the backups before replying here, I hadn't rebooted so I just did so. Sadly it is still the same issues.

4. This is a completely clean install, I have never used/installed the program before until today.

Same here using Windows 7 (64 bit) and JV16 version 2.0.0.961. My PC Health was 95% then after running 'Clean and fix my computer' my PC Health dropped to 26%.

Thats what I said after reboot the same issues ...

I still have the 1% in pc health and registry health as well as the not able to click on URL's within outlook and have them open in Firefox.

I did not change any settings, I left them on the default of Normal, I have checked what the values are just now in there and they are all ticked.

The backup restore didnt give any errors,

I did not install anything else either before or after the installation

The only step I didnt do was reboot after restore, but as mentioned upon reboot all was still the same.

If you seach the internet on "General failure. An error occurred in sending the command to the application" you will find that this is a much more common problem, not related to jv16PT. Most reports are W7, Office 2007 and Firefox. Some suggestions to use IE7/IE8 but is not always the solution.

More than one user reported: I am also having trouble opening up hyperlinks after I updated Microsoft with > a live update...It appears no one has an answer to this problem yet. > Any one else with a suggestion?

Try rebuilding the jv16 cache:

1. Open jv16 Powertools

2. In the top menu, go to Tools>Program Maintenance

3. Click on "Flush Cache" and then "Yes"

4. Click on "Close" to close the maintenance window

5. Close jv16 and then restart it. The cache will rebuild.

That should get your registy and computer health percentages back on track.

Concerning Outlook 2007, try "fixing" Outlook.

1. First make sure that FireFox is your default browser.

2. Open Outlook 2007

3. Go to Help>Office Diagnostics and run the Diagnostics. Note that you may need your Office 2007. (If you have a folder named MSOCache on your hard drive, you will not need the CD because MSOCache will contain all files from the installation build of Office 2007.)

Thanks for the reply, I did as you suggested above and reset the cache, and both are now 100%. Strange thing is though is why would they be corrupted if it was a brand new install?

The outlook diagnostics ran and it showed nothing wrong in all of the 6 Categories, the going online part failed afterwards with a 404 error? sadly I still cannot open a link from within Outlook :( I even changed my default browser to IE and restarted with no change :(

Don't want to hijack, but something's definitely broken with this feature. My PC was at only 63% health, so I clicked on "Clean and fix my computer" and it showed only about 1600 items which were merely temp files and MRUs. But when I canceled-out of this (not having done anything to fix) my PC Health shows only 3% now!!!?!!!

It doesn't surprise me that the heath % dropped. Registry Cleaner found 1600 items that are clogging up your registry and hard drive. What happens if you let it "Fix" and Clean these 1600 items?

I reinstalled firefox and outlook that cured the problem, however I am going to be very weary of running jv16 in the future, especially as it was the first time installed and ran and it got itself corrupted somehow that I had to repair the cache :(

Thanks leonardo, the only thing I have to say with the url issue is that I had installed nothing or changed anything other than jv16 :( It may be one of those things, a coincidence.

On a side note, something I only noticed just now, I have a folder in the root of C: called Temp which I use to store temp files etc, just a general folder. jv16 deleted everything in that folder. Luckily it didnt contain anything important, but it seems that it will delete anything in a folder called temp, no matter where it is located. I created another folder called temp on my D: drive and copied a few files into it and ran jv16 again, it deleted the items in that folder :(

I would also recommend that you do not use the folder name "TEMP" for any folder that you want data permanently saved in. It is pretty much standard protocol under Windows that folders named "Temp" or "Temporary" means that the folder can be emptied without any resulting negative consequences to your system. The same goes for files with the extension .tmp. They are temporary files.

Exactly.

And I would like to point out that "jv16 deleted everything in that folder" does not happen. jv16 PowerTools lists the contents of all your Temp directories if you run the Clean and Fix my computer tool, it doesn't automatically delete anything, you click the button to confirm the file removal.

When jv16 PowerTools starts for the first time it runs an Initial Setup. Because users don't want this to last for too long, it only contains a quick system check. This system check is used to calculate the Registry health and PC health values.

The exact numbers for these are calculated after the user runs the Clean and Fix my computer, this causes the Registry health and PC health values to be updated.

Therefore, if you only run the Clean and Fix my computer but don't actually use it (i.e. delete the found items), your Registry health and PC health numbers will most likely drop. This doesn't mean that the health of your computer just went down because of running this tool, it means that the Registry health and PC health values just got updated with the latest and most accurate data.
