Today I finally installed JVPT2010 version 2.0.0.961 on my WinXP Pro desktop computer. I ran the Registry Cleaner. It told me I had 254 registry errors. I looked at them, decided they all should be fixed, clicked on Fix, and then was told "All done! 10 registry errors were fixed, 54.5 KB of data was removed (0 files, 115 registry entries, and 17 registry keys)." I'm not at all sure how this squares with the 254 figure presented at the start. Moreover, when I went back to the main Registry Tools page, it said at the bottom: "You have been using JV PowerTools for 0 days and used it 3 times. During the time you have fixed 254 registry errors and deleted 0 temp files and deleted 0 other files." I do not see how the statement that I have fixed 254 registry errors agrees with the statement that 10 registry errors were fixed. I'm also not completely sure I see why it says I have used JVPT 3 times, since I used the Registry Cleaner only once, and used no other tools, though I did poke around a little. Does each time I look at a tool count as a "use"? Frankly, though, this is much less important to me than figuring out whether the Registry Cleaner did in fact fix all 254 errors or only 10.
A second problem that occurred as a result of running the Registry Cleaner is that now WinPatrol keeps popping up to tell me that C:\Program Files\Soluto\soluto.exe /userinit has put itself into the startup menu and will start each time I login or restart my computer. WinPatrol asks me whether this is expected and OK. This is all very strange, since I DELETED that program from my computer with Revo Uninstaller (which also removed registry entries related to it) a week or two ago. It is not on my computer. I assume that WinPatrol is providing this warning because something had been inappropriately changed today in the registry when I ran JVPT Registry Cleaner. I did see some entries related to Soluto when I looked at what JVPT had identified as errors, but that didn't seem strange, since the program was no longer on my system and it's possible that there were some registry entries that Revo didn't remove. I don't recall ever before seeing WinPatrol warn me about a program that's no longer on my computer trying to start at startup!
Anyway, I'm quite confused and disappointed. I've used JVPT for years with few problems. I'm now wondering whether I was wrong to upgrade from version 2009 to 2010. I'd welcome some advice about what's happening and what to do (for the moment, the Soluto warnings have stopped, so what I'm most interested in is understanding the discrepancy between 254 errors fixed and 10).
Thanks in advance for your help.
