I am doing something wrong in looking for empty directories. I select "C:\" and then select a size search. I have tried specifying "0" files, and also the content size in bytes. However, when I search, after lots of activity, it always comes up with none found, even though there are several. I don't have any other criteria selected, at least that I know of. :? In much older version of JV16 there used to be an explicit check box for empty directories.

These should do it (almost):

  • Search by size

  • Look only for directories of specific size

  • Directories that are

  • Smaller than 1 B

The list will also show directories that contain only empty files.

Thanks, but I still get a blank list, even with several empty directories off C:\. Is there any place else where I might have inadvertently set a condition which is not being met?

Alan

Personally I didn't find no problems about.

It works every time with these settings:

    • Look only for directories named: "*.*" (no quotes)

    • Search in: I usually look just in the system's temp directories, but C:\ works fine.

    • Search by size: as specified previously above.

    • Search by contents: don't use this setting.

    • Search by date: don't use this setting.

    • Options: don't use any of the options.

    • Ignore words: Recycle (since I don't care to see empty folders in the Recycle Bin if searching C:\.

Alan

Which version of jv16PT are you using?

In my case jv16PT2010-beta4 does NOT work, however jv16PT2009-v606 DOES work correctly!

Could you please verify that you don't have anything checked under the Options tab of the Directory Finder?

5 days later

I made certain that all boxes are not checked. While researching this, I came across a couple of utilities designed specifically to find empty directories. Both came up with about 500, and I have used that to prune the left over directories.
