Reg Cleaner breaks .EXE Association

For the second time, my XP installation was corrupted when I used the Reg Cleaner in JV16, ver 9. Thankfully this time, the restore point saved me. Can you tell me what I need to do differently to avoid this in the future, but still take advantage of the application?

What version of PowerTools you are using, are you using 32 or 64 bit version of XP and under what settings are you running the Registry Cleaner with? (Normal or aggressive?)

32b, XP MCE, Ver 1.9.1.606 and not sure, but believe it is standard. Couldn't find anything that said aggressive. The slider on the first tab is a little above half.

Just to be sure, how do you know that it was the Registry Cleaner that caused the problem? You didn't use any other software around the same time?

I actually ran Reg Cleaner, followed by compactor. I also used the backup registry step.

I got the file, thank you! I edited your message to remove the file, it contains quite a bit information, no need to allow anyone else to see it. For example, a backup copy of your license file was included.

I'm very sorry about this issue. I didn't find anything obviously wrong in the backup file(s) you sent, but I think I have an idea what caused the problem. The issue is already fixed from PowerTools 2010. I'm afraid the only way to avoid the problem in the future, is to start to use PowerTools 2010, the currently latest version is a test version Beta4 which can be downloaded from the Beta Testing section of this forum.

PowerTools 2010 will be offered as a free update to all existing customers, one reason is this: PowerTools 2009 contains a few bugs that shouldn't have been there, and we can't ask users money (upgrade fee) for fixing issues like this.
