Hello all!

If I use the duplicate file tools of jvTools 2008 it works correctly and the speed/time to sort these files out is good.

But if I use the 2009 or the 2010 beta1 edition it tends to be very (Very!) slow. Although I checked the settings (which are the same for all the three editions) I don´t know why this happens. Has someone an idea?

What settings you are using the Duplicate File Finder with? And from what kind of set of data you are looking for the duplicate from?

Hi! Sorry that I´m bit late answering your question.

In all 3 versions (2008/2009/2010beta) I use the following options:

Use as little cpu power as possible not checked

Skip deep directory structures to improve speed not checked

skip larger files than 100MB to improve speed checked

disable cross-drive checking to improve speed checked

skip system files to improve safety not checked

The files that are compared are mainly jpeg´s. But at my computer it´s allways the same: in the 2008 version for 105000 files it takes about 6 minutes and for the 2009 and 2010 beta versions considerably longer (to be honest after fifteen minutes I quit that and use the 2008 version)

Any idea?

Could you please run the Duplicate File Finder of PT 2008 and PT 2010 Beta1 on the same set of data and see if they show identical results?

I don't remember if PT 2008 has different implementation of something that could cause it to skip some files. That's the only guess I have right now.

The actual comparison speed of PT 2010 should be much faster than of any other version, the only way I can see an older version to be faster is that it's not analyzing all files.

Again sorry that I´m responding so late. But if I use the different versions on the same data it it still so that the 2008 version is much faster than 2009 and the beta´s of 2010.

I found that analyzing the files and the directories is about the same (in my case 4 minutes) but for comparing the files which could be the same lasts very long. The 2008 version uses about 4 minutes again though (so 8 min.in total) . I cancel it after 15 minutes in the later versions. And to repeat it again I use the same options and the same set of data.

I have no idea what´s the reason behind this.
