Software Uninstaller issues

OS: Vista SP-2 32-bit

I have a couple of issues with the "Software Uninstaller":

1. Using "Custom Uninstall" too often when I click the "Run Uninstaller", it says "Done" but nothing happens, i.e., the applications uninstaller does not run. However, I can successfully run the uninstaller from the "Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs" applet.

2. I have a few entries in the software list that I do not have installed and the "More information" shows nothing.

Question:

Evidently, this utility checks ALL drives for software whether installed or not. This is not good, IMHO, because it includes application executables which I have stored on an external hard drive for backup. What I would expect is that only applications actually installed on the drive that I'm running, e.g., C:\ will be included in the list. Is there a way to limit the applications to just the running operating system?

You can do that with a manual edit. Use notepad to add the drives you want ignored to C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2009\Settings\SuperSoftwareIgnoreList.dat. It will look something like this:

For the same reasons, you likely wouldn't want a Registry Cleaner "FIX" to change entries to point to files on those drives. This Settings file (FileCache.dat) makes the cache build only look at C:\:

Thanks... made the suggested mods to both files. Now to get some feedback on the two issues regarding the Software Uninstaller utility. :)

This can occur for example in case if the software has a valid uninstallation infromation in the registry, but its uninstaller fails for some reason.

It's quite impossible for PowerTools to know whether the uninstaller runs properly or not. But you are correct that the GUI doesn't communicate this very well to the user. This has now been improved (for PT 2010).

Another possibility is that PowerTools has failed to detect the Uninstaller of the software. But PowerTools can still uninstall the software rather well, this is why the tool still reports "Done!" even if it can't find the Uninstaller.

In addition to Tullik's answer I'd like to note that PowerTools 2010 contains a feature called Global Ignore List. It allows you easily to define, for example, that some drives will not be analyzed/accessed by the program in any ways. This feature was designed to handle backup drives, being external or internal.

Thanks... all good information to have, especially regarding the new version 2010. So, is this version currently available somewhere? I just used "Help/Check for updates" and it shows I have the latest version 1.91.606.
