Hello All,

Trying to create a system "snapshot" before installing some software, i click on "Full" . The progress bar proceeds to finish...then nothing? It (the progress bar) just sits there? (tried only two choices same result) Vista SP-2 Home premium 32 bit 3GB ram. Any ideas? Regards Fred

PS Let program run and it tried to created a "snapshot" Approx 20mins

Did a "compare"(when finished) after installing a new program , .Registry monitor ran for about 40 mins to an hour then program crashed . (program not responding)

Making a full snapshot with jv16PTv599 in Win-XP-Prof.-SP3 took me 2,5-3 minutes, no problems!

Leonardo,

Hello, I am running v- 1.9.0.590 not sure what version yours is? Tried to do the uninstall/ reinstall, still the same. The "registry monitor" takes about 10 minutes to complete, Approx 59 MB (2 hives) then the program freezes up when trying to do a compare. Anyone have any ideas? Regards Fred

So, as Leonardo wrote, he's running the version 599.

You can download it here.

Attention: it's a test- or betaversion as you might notice because it's in the section "Beta testing" of this forum.

redseujac,

Hello, thank you for your reply. I have tried 599 (beta) and it has behaved exactly the same as 590. Takes about 5 mins to create a snapshot,( approx 54 MB) then when doing the compare the program stalls . After about 5 mins or so the progress bar is at about 10% then the small "clock" just about comes to a stop. at that rate i do not have enough patience to let it continue. Hope someone has some ideas, or at least tell me if this function works with Vista Home Premium SP-2 /32 bit . Regards Fred

Fred,

The other day it took me 2,5 minute to take a snapshot of my full register (all hives = 27MB) with jv16PT 1.9.0.599, under Win-XP-Prof.-SP3.

Today i compared my current registry content to the taken snapshot. The compare took ~4 minutes and found approx. 300 differences.

Leonardo,

Guess i will try "live chat" or send an E Mail to "tech support" to try and solve this problem with JV-16 and my system. Thanks for your help Regards Fred

Hopefully others will do the test under Vista, it only takes 10-15 minutes to do so:

With the Registry Monitor take a Registry Snapshot + Compare the current registry content to the taken snapshot.

PT2009 (606) Tested on x86 Vista BE pre-SP1 desktop

I didn't do a full registry snapshot and compare, just some shorter tests.

There are a few bugs. For example:

  • This bug is still in 1.9.0.590 and 1.9.0.606: http://www.macecraft.com/bugtracker/bug/112917/

An entry which did not change showed as changed in the list with corrupted data (this is repeatable, twice anyway).

"Change back" for that entry puts corrupted data in the registry entry (also repeatable). The backup is correct.

Some MRU items are listed even when "Ignore MRU entries" is selected.

Perhaps the crashes and uninterruptible loop or hang you are experiencing is due to another bug.

Since there likely will not be any further fixes to PT2009, someone can see what Registry Monitor does in the PT2010 betas ...

FYI: PowerTools 2010 will contain re-designed and re-implemented Registry Monitor which will both be faster as the old one, will support comparing two snapshots (vs. only comparing one snapshot against the current registry as with PT 2009) and will have all these issues fixed.

Jv16, thanks for your reply, this is good to hear, looking forward to jvPT version 2010.
