Possibily it's the same reason why the MUICache items don't show in the Registry Cleaner, because those items also are re-created all the time after cleaning.
So, try unchecking the option "Don't show items that would be automatically re-created" in the "Advanced options" tab of the Registry Cleaner.
uncheck checked
I may try the suggestion, but my experience with the MRU, at least in pt lite, was not good, as I found out you have to be careful because you will lose some settings/functions in some programs by deleting them.
ccleaner just has a better (easier) option because it has a seperate catagory for MUI CACHE. You can actually scan it seperately.
I'm not degrading Power Tools, the more I use it, the more I like it and am getting used to it, but being a novice, some things are just easier in other programs. Power Tools is a very thorough and complete program though, it seems.
Just an observation from a newb.
redseujac wrote...You might usefully read this post of Tullik.
He writes that Powertools 2009's Registry Cleaner does find MUICache errors of "file does not exist type" at the default setting (second slider position) and that it lists the items in the MRU/History category...
I confirm what Tullik wrote.
I did a test with Registry Cleaner, default setting (second slider), "List MRU and other history data" checked and under the Advanced Options "Don't show items that would be automatically re-created" NOT checked.
In the MRU/History category of the scan results I have found several erroneous MUICache entries ("file or directory does not exist").
In the scan results window you can click on Search (Menu at the top) and enter "muicache" en those items will be automatically selected. Then you could decide to remove only those entries or just have a look at them (if you are afraid having trouble when deleting MRU entries)...
redseujac wrote... I read this about the MUICache at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/muicache_view.htmlEach time that you start using a new application, Windows operating system automatically extract the application name from the version resource of the exe file, and stores it for using it later, in Registry key known as the 'MuiCache'.
This utility allows you to easily view and edit the list of all MuiCache items on your system. You can edit the name of the application, or alternatively, you can delete unwanted MUICache items.
Be aware that even if your delete MUICache items, they'll reappear in the next time that you run the application.
Based on the quote redseujac found, it would seem it is completely safe to remove entries under the MuiCache key.
To confirm, I did the following:
2. Deleted the MuiCache key with Registry Finder (with backup of course).
3. Opened an .xls file (Excel).
4. Redisplayed the key using RegEdit.
5. Results:
b. Windows put back the MuiCache key with the just run Excel entry, plus a few others.
I'm not recommending anyone do this, but it seems to be safe to do.

I only ran Excel. It seems a few other programs take a look when an .xls file opens and/or closes.
Maybe the mui cache isn't a big deal?
Just thought you'd like to know.
Again, thanks for all the input!
