In both PT Lite and jv16 PT 2009 B555 registry cleaner, right click option "Export as .reg file" does not work. The "save to" navigation window does not open...nothing happens at all when selecting this option on Vista x64

Oh yes, I thought PT Lite would be free of this little issue with x64 but I guess I was wrong. It's most strange problem, a very standard Windows API call works just fine when used under 32 bit OS, and the same call works perfectly from a simple demo application under x64 as well but when run within PT, it fails under x64.

I already had one very talented guy take a look at the problem and his best guess is that it must be a bug in Windows, one developer forum does contain a bit similar error case but I'm still looking for a solution...

If it is not working in PT Lite, I can first click on "Open in Regedit", let Regedit open, close Regedit, and then it "export" works. This does not work in PT 2009 however.

This appears to be 100% repeatable in PT Lite.

I have exactly the same in PT Lite.

Sometimes the Export as .reg works first time and the Save As box appears. Other times the Save As doesn't open but if I click on Open in Regedit then close the Regedit window and return to Export as .reg then it does work and the Save As box opens.

Sorry to repeat siliconman01's post but I'm just confirming his findings.

. . . a zero count for Temp Files. ...

Could the System Optimizer performance tweak 1-1 make the program skip all files?

Hey Tullik, why is it that it works properly on my system and not on yours?

Depending on the settings the program finds less or more temporary files on my system.

Nevertheless that Performance Tweak is also checked on my system.

Is the Temp files dir a protected Windows dir on your system?

Mine is not a subdir of the Root directory, i.e. C:\, but is placed on another drive, i.e. E:\

So it's not C:\Temp or C:\Windows\Temp or something like that, but E:\XX\Temp.

Dear developer,

Is it possible to include the "Temporary Internet Files" folder as Temp dir to clean?

Maybe a little problem: on some systems that folder doesn't have the name "Temporary Internet Files", but it is translated in the local language, so maybe the program won't find the folder to clean it, unless I'm wrong.

May I also suggest you prompt the user to back up the reg before doing anything with it. IE Prompt that "We highly recommend that you allow the program to create a backup of your reg at this time.

It will be saved to xxxx(Details) and you can restore it back using the following method if you experience any issues.

Already now a backup is automatically made of all the registry entries that have been fixed/removed and all the files that have been deleted.

You can access those backups by simply clicking on "Undo" and restore them fully or partially when needed.

A mystery to me ...

It finds zero files in temporary directories on four different PC's.

When you select the "Control hidden items" option, the "editor" window briefly shows in front, then drops out of sight behind the results window.

Confirmed!

And it's rather annoying because the user could think at first sight the window has disappeared completely, though that's not so. After closing the other windows you notice there's still one left: the one of the Control hidden items editor.

So this annoyance better should be fixed in a way the editor window doesn't disappear behind the other windows.

When running the program in Dutch I always get the same issue as I had during the beta's and RC's of jv16 PowerTools 2009:

the Error severity column shows numbers instead of red indicators/bars in all other languages but English.

Look at these posts:

When running the program in English the red indicators are always shown as it should.

With the actual version of jv16 PowerTools 2009 I don't have that problem either.

Because the developer succeeded in fixing that problem for PT2009 final I'm confident he'll do the same for PowerTools Lite :

That quite annoying little issue is now fixed, thank you all for reporting!

Good idea! Starting from the next version, the program will also search the Temporary Internet Files directory. Same applies to jv16 PowerTools as well, of course.

jv16 wrote...Known issues:

* Handbook icon of the Main Window produces an error message (because there is nor will be a handbook)

Then why not simply remove that (useless) icon to prevent users being confused?

This is now done. Also, as we discussed in the Beta1 thread (if I remember right), the program starting from the next version will support a two-click-cleaning. First click start the scan, second click fixes all the issues (all issues are automatically selected and you don't get to see the Start Scan window at all).

For users who want more control, they can change the GUI of the program to "extended" from the main window, this allows them to see the Start Scan window as well.

Similar dual-GUI system will be implemented to jv16 PT in the next major update as well.

But will the program be able to find the Temp Internet Files dir in the localized Windows versions, e.g. versions in the Dutch, French, German, etc. languages, where most possibly that folder has another (translated) name?

Of course, the path to the "Temporary Internet Files" folder can be read from the registry, no matter what locale of Windows you are using.
