Power Tools results vary

I just ran the old version of RegCleaner 4.3 and got 32 results errors. Took no corrective action.

Then I ran PT2008 RegCleaner and got 32 results errors. Took no corrective action. NOTE: The 32 errors were the same.

Then I ran PT2009 RegCleaner and got 2 results errors.

Both PT2008 and PT2009 were run at the same "agressive" level (default level 2).

Is PT2009 more "protective?" Have the internals of the RegCleaner changed so much that it doesn't find the same errors as PT2008?

Obviously, the Operating System and the Hardware configuration did not change. I did notice that a lot of the errors were in the "ARPCache" category. Does PT2009 not find these or consider them errors? Or do I have a setting incorrect in PT2009?

I'm just looking for an explanation, no criticism intended.

What do you have checked under PT 2009's Registry Cleaner's Advanced Options tab?

It's true that PT 2009 is the most protective than any previous versions, but if PT 2008 listed ARPCache errors and PT 2009 did not, this sounds like a bug.

In PT2009 the only option set in RegCleaner Advanced Options is "Don't show items that would automatically be re-created."

But, that same option was checked in PT2008.

When I changed the option (unchecked) in PT2009 it did show the ARPCache items.

Does PT2009 consider these "recreateable" and PT2008 did not?

The option did not include ARPCache items in PowerTools 2008 but it now does with PT 2009, so that is why ARPCache items were not listed in PowerTools 2009. No bug after all, I'm glad to say.

So, the logic was changed in PT2009.

Just curious, is there a "Change Log" somewhere that the users could see what differences there are (1) between Program versions and (2) release issues within a program version? Maybe that would help.

The logic is the same, the feature was only improved.

We release Change Logs between each version including the main changes, for example the Change Log of the latest version is visible here: http://www.macecraft.com/news/180/

I did not see a reference to this change in these logs so I guess this change was so small it wasn't considered to be worthy of mentioning in the Change Logs. It's not possible to log every change, because if we would, the Change Logs would very often contain hundreds of items. That's why the logs only contain the most important changes.

The real issue was, since the options were set the same in both the PT2008 and PT2009 programs, why the difference in results. They both had "Don't show" set but PT2008 did show the ARPCache and PT2009 didn't. Same option.

Well the post and the whole thread I referred to shows exactly WHY the developer made this change in version 2009. That's the reason why I gave you the link you know :

The option "Don't show items that would automatically recreated" didn't ignore the ARPCache keys before the change even in 2009, but after the change the option does ignore those keys, so they don't show anymore as results of the Registry Cleaning if the option is checked and so there's a less number of total items shown.

But the topic of my post was "results vary" and I was aware of the ARPCache issue on the other thread. While ARPCache was the majority, there were other errors in the three scans causing me to wonder why the original RegCleaner, PT2008 and PT2009 differed, even with the engine and advanced settings the same. And I knew the ARPCache was just recently added to the "Don't show" in PT2009 sometime in March.

As I said, Jouni clarified it for me.
