I use Tivo desktop software on my pc at times.

I enable or disable it in powertools startup manager.

In the current and a few (not sure when started) previous versions, when I enable the tivo registry entries, they are gone and don't exist at bootup.

I use the tivo software to repair and it works normally until the next time I disable and then enable the software in startup manager.

Then the tivo registry entries are gone again and the software won't start.

I have other start up manager entries which if enabled disappear also.

I've used powertools for years and lived through numerous glitches.

This one began about 4-6 weeks ago.

I've attached debug logs.

Thanks

If you uninstalled PowerTools prior to installing a new PowerTools version, that would explain this behavior.

The uninstaller deletes all the PowerTools folders including Backups.

Backups contains the Enable information for Startup Manager.

A workaround: don't use the PowerTools uninstall.

Prior to uninstalling powertools 2008 (On Feb 1, 2009) , I took a screenshot of startup manager.

I then re-enabled everything in startup manager and rebooted.

I then installed jv16powertools 2009 and disabled the items in startup manager that I normally would.

My C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2009\Backups\_StartupManager contains 33 folders with data.

Also as I stated, I can reinstall the tivo software, disable and re-enable the tivo startup items only to have the tivo registry

entries magically disappear and no longer function.

Help correcting this would be appreciated.

Thanks

In C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2009\Backups\_StartupManager\001C09 the registry entry

indicates the path as:

"TivoNotify"="\"C:\\Program Files\\TiVo\\Desktop\\TiVoNotify.exe\" /service /registry /auto"

Why does powertools show WOW6432Node?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WOW6432Node does not exist.

This is Vista SP1 32 bit.

The same file from a Ghost image made a month ago correctly indicates the path as:

"TivoNotify"="\"C:\\Program Files\\TiVo\\Desktop\\TiVoNotify.exe\" /service /registry /auto"

I've made no changes or updates to the Tivo software.

That indicates a bug in PT in its attempt to solve x64 issues.

Thought so.

Thanks for your reply.

Powertools startup manager (at the top of the window) shows:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "C:\Program Files\TiVo\Desktop\TiVoNotify.exe" /service /registry /auto.

That is correct.

However the reg key it shows in jv16powertools backup shows:

"TivoNotify"="\"C:\\Program Files\\TiVo\\Desktop\\TiVoNotify.exe\" /service /registry /auto"

Can we fix this soon please?

Thanks

This is a confirmed bug for x64 systems. See posts 9 & 14 in the thread below.

Yep, I see the same issue.

I would move to 64 bit except for a couple of 32 bit programs I use which won't work properly in the environment.

I hope the 32 bit version of PT doesn't get broken attempting to dial in a 64 bit version.

For now, I've gone back to v1.9.0.531 which in 32 bit, only has the issue for me with the window resizing itself wrong.

Confirmed

for Vista Ultimate 32-bit!!!

After disabling a startup item, rebooting, enabling the item again, rebooting, the startup item is gone from the registry :

This is a very serious and critical BUG in build 550!!!

The developer should fix that BUG at once, because some users risk serious problems with programs not starting up anymore at boottime.

Maybe the BUG has been created while working at the 64-bit problems with Startup Manager?

Anyway the only conclusion for now is: don't use the Startup Manager untill that BUG is fixed!!!

This is indeed correct and I will release a fixed version in next week.

Fixed version is now released, thank you for reporting!
