I have the exact same problem with this version on Vista 32. I've already emailed but has got no reply.

This is unusual. All previous versions (since version 1) has been fine. But this particular version caused the software to hang. Hope the bug can be solved soon. As for now, the registry cleaner is entirely unsuable. Which is a pity, as it's the main thing I use JVpowertools for.

I agree but I hope that jv16 will find the cause of the bug. When I contacted the support not long since I got the answer that there will be in some time a new version. In the moment jvpt is absolutely defective. Lets us hope the best.

I am using the the QSA and Registry Cleaner fine on XPpro SP3, no freezing. You must have something interfering with it somewhere.

Now I can't even do a single thing with JVPT. On startup, it asks if I want to do a registry analysis. And since a reg analysis inevitably hangs the software, I clicked "no". And guess what...it hangs after I clicked that!

I can't do a single thing with it. I've been using JVPT since the days it was just Regsupreme and version 1, and I've upgraded every version since then. This is the first time I've encountered it. Used it on all kinds of machines before, including XP, Vista 32 and 64. Still, I've never encountered this before, until this version.

Your opinion seems to be correct. The incompatible program is probably AVIRA ANTIVIR PREMIUM, but I can't it say with sureness. I would like to hear if someone who has the same occurence uses AVIRA ANTIVIR PREMIUM also. It is not possible to end the process AVIRA completely without deinstallation.

I don't think Avira is the cause of the problem you are having. I have Avira Premium Security Suite V9 on Vista and was able to eliminate the problem by doing what I posted earlier. JMO and experience.

Try changing the Messaging settings:

Settings>Messaging>uncheck "Also show extended information (for advanced users)"

Restart jv16 and try a scan.

If that does not break the log jam, change the messaging setting to "Show messages in normal Windows dialogs", restart jv16, try a scan.

The above worked on my Vista x64 system..

Thanks to siliconman01: After I changed the described messaging settings it works - but very slowly (QSA = 835 secds). The "Progress wheel" stops for a long time, but before the end it begins to rotate. The scanning results seem to be correct. This is flashy: If you click "Also show extended information (for advanced users)" the window begins to flicker (between active and passive modus). Then the the program must be stopped by the TASK MANAGER. This shows that there is a bug in jv16PT 2009.

Can you post the DEBUG logs from your Vista 32-bit system when doing a registry scan with the bug problem active so that Jouni can track it down? Although the problem also occurs on my Vista x64 system, Jouni is working on making jv16 fully compatible on 64-bit systems, so my system may not generate the problem accurrately for fixing.

1. Open jv16 PowerTools and activate the "Also show extended information (for advanced users)" option in Messaging.

2. Turn on DEBUG mode

- Hold down the Ctrl key and tap the Shift key.

- The DEBUG menu item should appear at the top menu of the main window of jv16

- Enable DEBUG

3. Close jv16 PT 2009

4. Open jv16 PT 2009 again. The Debug icons should appear on your desktop.

5. Start a Registry Scan and let it scan until it hangs. Let it set "hung" for about 5 minutes.

6. Close jv16 PowerTools.

7. Then right click on the first icon of the Debug icons on your desktop and select Send to>Compressed (zipped) Folder. This will create a Zipped file of the first debug log.

8. Repeat for the second icon.

9. Then use the Upload attachment option here on the forum to attach them into your post in this thread. Attach the Zipped files of the debug icons.

I've uninstalled and re-installed JVPT. Turn off advance mode during initial analysis. Analysis now completes without problem. Then it hangs - starts to flicker. Can't do anything about it.

When I retart JVPT, it hangs on startup - flickering.

I don't think it's the antivirus. I use BitDefender which has no problem with previous versions of JVPT.

Could someone please create a debug log of the problem for me? That's the best way to get the problem fixed because I can't see the problem with any of my test environments.

I can only go into debug more if I can run JVPT. But as it is, JVPT now hangs immediately on startup. I can't run any debug logs.

In such case you can setup the debug mode manually, simply browse to PowerTools' installation dir (by default c:\program files\jv16 PowerTools\) and create an empty file called "DebugMode.dat". Then start the program and it will start in debug mode and create the log file to Desktop.
