If you're counting strikes, the latest NOD32 v4.x does not run well on my Vista macine. It works okay on my XP SP3 machine. Hence, I'm currently sticking with v3.

I use NOD32 cuz it works across all of my machines (various versions): Win98SE, XP, and Vista.

I registered NOD32 for 2 years in November of 2007. When Norton Internet Security 2009 came out, it was way less resource intensive than NOD32 was on my old P4 2.8 GHZ (single porcessor). So I switched to that and haven't turned back since. NIS 2009 actually did better in AV testing than NOD32 did this time around. So, I have a license sitting dead in the water. ;)

I gave up on Norton's about 2004 or thereabouts. Previous to that, I used all of Norton's products. It finally got to the point where Norton's, I felt, was getting too intrusive and too bloated. I haven't looked at any Norton products since. I guess I should one of these days.

I know what you mean. I gave up on Norton's after Peter Norton sold out. I guess that shows my age huh? The 'ol BBS days where 2400 Baud was king. ;)

Like you said, too much bloat and too resource intensive. But they redeemed themselves this year. Even better than last year. I have a sneaky feeling though that it is going to be short-lived and they will get too confident and start adding crap to ruin it again. I figure I'll ride the wave as long as it stays the way it is now and hardly noticeable on my 10-year-old P4 system.

<hehe>.. I started at 300 baud back in the early '80s..<grin>...

Would you believe that I'm actually a DOS man? My main machines are DOS 5.0 machines. I have Windows machines (Win98SE, XP, Vista) just to keep up with the Jones' and get on the web. I don't really do that much with the Windows machines, though. My main DOS machine is a 486-33. It's hard-wired to a Celeron 586 that is mirrored via Laplink. For my limited purposes (a few letters, a few spreadsheets, a few small dbs), the DOS machines are fine and secure; they are not connected to my network.

I didn't mention 300 baud because that really would have given away my age. I ran a BBS in Iowa on a Tandy 1000, and upgraded to an AST 10 MHZ screamer. I was a DOS man at one time, too. I miss it sometimes, but not too often anymore. Remember Windows 3.0? And then the magic upgrade to 3.1? Ahhh, those were the days. ;)

<hehe>.. The Celeron 586 backup machine that I mentioned replaced my trusty ole AST 286 10Mhz a few years back. The Celeron was a used machine. My AST had a 2MB RAMpage card in it for expanded memory.

Ahem!.. I still have Win31 installed on my DOS machines as an alternate boot-up. I still use it monthly to use NISTime to reset those clocks. All that will come to an end at the end of next month, though. My dialup ISP is Compuserve and they are shutting down their network on 30 June. My broadband ISP (Time-Warner) doesn't offer a dialup backp. I've also finally had to convert my email over to POP3..<sigh>..

Believe it or not, you can still buy the RAMpage card on eBay. I saw one going for $39 (USD) just this morning. These kids today have no idea what waiting for an OS to boot really means. I used to code in Turbo Pascal when it was the "next big language". And color coded files by hand. Those were the days.

The Windows 3.1 I was talking about were the first versions that crashed more than they stayed up.
