Is there a report on version 550 that lists specific fixes?

Is it safe to run 550 on 64-bit OS's - or should I hold off for now?

The 550 mainly works as 548 was supposed to work, so this change log still applies:

I would wait for the fully 64 bit compatible version that will be released in April.
