License Failure

I have now downloaded the license.xbin file (for 2009) twice. The program works ONLY if the file is on my desktop. Once I place this file in the program directory, the program opens in trial mode. I have not opened th xbin file. I can't think of anything else to try. And I can't leave this file permanently on my desktop.

Can you please address this!

Sounds like it may be some sort of bug. Did you try Help-->License Information-->Install new license... ?

Also, if you make "" in C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2009\Settings\Settings.dat look like the following, maybe it will see the License.xbin in the program directory:


DateFormat=DD.MM.YYYY, HH


File=English.lng


Filename=C:\Program Files\jv16 PowerTools 2009\license.xbin

Manually setting the path in settings.dat to the program directory fixed the problem - I hope not just temporarily...

So, yes, there is a bug.

Help-->License Information-->Install new license does not work. After using this function, the program fails to reopen and the settings.dat file continues to point to the desktop. It does not rewrite the settings.dat file.

If the license file is installed from, or autodetected on, the desktop, the program continues to open as it should -- provided that the license.xbin file remains on the desktop.

If the license is installed from anyplace other than the desktop, the program either opens once, and then reverts to trial mode, or goes directly to trial mode. I can't establish a pattern for the once|never condition.

This bug should now be fixed, thank you for reporting! The next released version will contain the fix in question.

FYI -- I've the same problem as others. I have the latest version of jv16PT, but it can't see the license. I used the Settings.dat fix above without success. With the license moved to the desktop, jv16 can't see it, and can't see it when I use the search for license command, with the license in the desktop or the main jv16 folder. I removed all remnants of prior jv16 products, registry key, etc. This is on Vista Home Premium,SP1.

Any other ideas?
