News on PowerTools 2009

Updated version 1.9.0.550 released, it should fix the Detached Message Window problem, Registry Cleaner hanging and some other minor issues as well. After this release, I'm hoping to get back to work on the x64 compatibility again.

Jouni, something's wrong. Fix is not working in Registry Cleaner. Registry errors are returned as normal, but after checking any number of items to delete, Fix does nothing.

So the Fix is not working? I just tried it with a large set of test data and I noticed no problems.

Fix is not working at all. All the boxes are checked, select Fix, and literally nothing happens. Do you want me to run a Debug log?

I can't attached the Debug log because it's too large. Could this behavior be caused by an anti-virus program? I just moved from AVG (which never interfered) to avast. I haven't tried running PT with avast disabled.

Can I delete anything from the Debug log to make it smaller but still keep it usable to you?

Couldn't you just zip it? That should make it small enough. The large size of the debug log is caused by the improved (even more detailed) debug feature of the latest version.

Wow, well, please use the new Debug Filtering feature. So enter the Debug mode, from the Main Window's Debug menu go to "Set Debug Log filter" and enter there "reg" (without the ""s). Then restart the program and run the Registry Cleaner and try to use the Fix. Now the Debug Log will only contain information containing the search word "reg", such as everything related to the Registry Cleaner for example. That should give me some idea what's going on.

Just to be sure, I ran Registry Cleaner with anti-virus disabled - no difference. I didn't really think the AV would affect things, but I had to check.

It looks like I'm the only one having this problem, which is good news. I'm going to try a fresh install and see what happens. I'll let you know.

Hello Everyone,

I've been wanting to upgrade from my PT2007 to PT2009 since it was released. I have been watching the forum here intently since just before '09 release. I have to say I am too scared to leave my safe PT2007 reading all of the bugginess in PT2009. Am I over-reacting here or are there significant issues STILL to be resolved in this release? : I will just use it for registry cleanup and maybe a compact now and then. I understand each of you who are regulars on the forum are committed to JV and that is edifying to see. I just wonder if PT09 will ever see the light of day as a fully developed non-buggy shiny program that one can call 'professional software'? Reading all the posts to date one could be forgiven for assuming everyone using PT2009 are field beta testers! I want something better than a release candidate for my money. It is not an operating system so one can't say "oh, but even MS has bugs". My question is . . . gut feeling . . . when? After all this time waiting I don't *really* want to go with some other competitive program - or indeed continue with the older PT07. I'm only a "semi tech-head". Any helpfull comments anyone? Thanks all.

Thanks JV for your comprehensive response! The fact that the discussions are so open and you are very approachable speaks volumes for the ultimate quality of the product, company and the JV community. It is the main reason that I have persisted with watching the forums waiting for a stable release as I know it will occur at some point. You are right - the way to prove it to myself is to download the '09 and give it a whirl. The 'safety-Net' feature is truly encouraging and from what I know it's unique in the game. A clarification to my earlier messages about Registry Cleaner Fix not working. Fix works when I use the Fix button at the bottom right of the screen. However, if I right-click on an entry or group of entries (after selecting their check boxes) and select Fix, the context menu Fix does not work. I apologize for the earlier confusion, but I rarely, if ever, use the Fix button - I always use the right-click context menu Fix.

Also, in Settings-Maintenance, when I click on any button, such as Delete temp files, the program freezes, the window starts flickering, and CPU usage spikes to 100%. I have to shut the program down using Task Manager.

Confirmed on XP-SP3 and also Vista x64.
