Hello,

I was having some trouble with not-fully-uninstalled software and started trying out jv16 PT 2009 today, seeing it highly recommended by

http://www.theeldergeek.com/registry_edits.htm

Still learning my way around the software, but already have some comments about its GUI (on XP SP3 if that matters):

1) Idiosyncratic behavior of vertical scroll bars

For instance:

Registry Manager: Add/Remove menu

click in the vertical scroll bar in area below or above the slider

most of the time that moves up or down by one screen as it should

occasionally (especially if you double-click relatively quickly in the scroll bar) the slider acts as if your mouse button was stuck, and quickly scrolls all the way up or down

I actually thought my mouse button was stuck, but tried the same exercise in another open program (Acrobat Reader, for the Handbook), and things worked as they should.

I might be something of a special case, as there are actually 4 "mice" attached to my ThinkPad: trackpoint, trackpad, usb mouse and bluetooth mouse. But still, don't have this problem in any other program.

2) Settings Tool

I hate the "autoscroll" of the various settings across the top. We've not chosen to use OSX, after all. Why not simply use a bog-standard horizontal scroll bar under the items when it's needed?

I don't mean to seem overly negative, but wanted to point out some personal turn-offs so you can correct them if you see fit.

I am very much attracted by the active support for this program:

* frequent new releases

* active user community

* interesting posts such as your new 35-way registry cleaner shootout

Thanks,

Frank

I agree with your assessment on Autoscroll in the Settings Tool. It is very difficult to control, particularly on fast systems. Here is what I did to get rid of it.

- Open Settings Tool

- With the mouse pointer, grab the window on the right edge and stretch it out (lengthwise) so that all the settings icons are displayed across the top.

It will remember the new window size on subsequent openings of the Settings Tool

Hi siliconman01,

Your work-around is good if you have the screen space. I just checked on my xga laptop, there's just barely enough room. Let's hope there are no more icons added :)

Or that the author sees the light and switches to a standard horizontal scrollbar.

Thanks,

Frank

Sorry, we encountered an error while displaying this content. If you're a user, please try again later. If you're an administrator, take a look in your Flarum log files for more information.

Doggone it, jv16, how will you ever see the light with those shades on? :

Seriously, though, thank you for putting the option to turn off auto-scroll (and possibly bigger scroll buttons) on your to-do list. Interesting about the horizontal scroll bar not being the Windows standard, I guess I show my ignorance from using mainly cross-platform (w/Linux) apps. But anyway your solution sounds good to me.

I'm still interested if anybody else has trouble with the *vertical* scroll bars as I described in my original post...?

Yes, but in my case, I think it may actually be the offbrand laser mouse I'm using.

May I bring to mind that the "autoscroll" feature has been included because several forum users had asked for it?

They pretended that it was too hard scrolling all the time between the tabs...

I'm almost sure "fmyhr" wasn't yet at the forum then :
