That's not a surprise; jv16 did not say it would be fixed in this release ...
Registry Manager Bug?
540, 548, 549 - it was working before but appears still broken in WinXP SP3.
candide wroteThe surprise is that a correct working function is screwed up in a new release, and apparently it seems to be difficult to
repair this misfit(s). No smile available for this remark.
I don't know whether it's difficult or not because I haven't really much looked into this problem because I have to prioritize. But I'll nail this problem soon, but not with the next version that will be released quite soon.
I hate to ask, but just how are features tested from the previous product to ensure they continue to work in the new product? This worked in PT2008.
I know there have been more serious "bugs" reported lately, but shouldn't all prior "features" continue to work?
Roxie wroteStill not fixed in lastest release 1.9.0.552.

With public beta testing program. You can read the beta testing reports of the PT 2009 prior its release from: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=10

You mean there is no systematic step-by-step, option by option test that ensures all features presented in the previous version (full version, PT2008) work as before in the new product (PT2009)? Open each tool, exercise each menu item, etc.

What I don't understand is that if these two items are shown in the Registry Manger menu ("Open With menu" and "Search menu") and they are both empty and confirmed not to be working why this was not detected prior to full product release and corrected. You even ask to have this confirmed back in February by other users and got several posts confirming it was indeed not working correctly.
We can go back and forth about the testing, but if they show on the menu and don't work and are also documented in the manual then they either need to be fixed or removed and the manual edited to show they are not part of the program.
Four beta's and two RC releases - and what, four point issues so far in the past two weeks? And how many posts recently about things that don't work - things like the Registry Cleaner where we are warned by a loyal user "DON'T USE" the Registry Cleaner until its fixed, CRITICAL BUG, etc.
Maybe redseujac has hit on something; perhaps its gotten too complex to do both 32bit and 64bit in one program, or WinXP and Vista, etc.
I'm sure I don't see the "big picture" but this is a little discouraging, to the point where I only feel safe using jv 16 2008.

Of course, that's done in in-house testing.

There has not been a single critical bug in PT 2009 (the last one was in PT 2008, by the way). If you want to discuss the quality and/or testing procedures of our products, feel free to do it here: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3734&start=0

I have no idea what "Del button .. no function" has to do with the Registry Manger "Open with" and "Search" menu tabs that were the topic of this discussion. And why you suggested going to that topic.
Critical or not, if this issue (Registry Manger Bug) was tested "in house" it sure wasn't identified. But, it apparently was identified by users early in February according to this thread, .......numerous releases ago.
All so many posters are asking, or expecting, on many of these topics is that what worked before, continue to work now.
Thanks for understanding.

If you wish to discuss the general quality, quality control, testing or number of bugs of PowerTools, please do it here: http://www.macecraft.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3734&start=0 I ask this because I do not wish to repeat the same things I wrote there just a few days ago.
And I hope to fix this bug shortly, but it's not a very high priority as you can guess.
